Position Details
The Investment Analyst provides investment due diligence and analyses in support of the ongoing management of Amherst College’s endowment. This position offers exposure to functional areas spanning investment due diligence and operational due diligence across all asset classes (marketable and non-marketable securities) and strategies. Key domains of responsibility include: manager due diligence; manager monitoring; portfolio analytics; model development and iteration; and, Investment Committee reporting. As a “generalist” the Investment Analyst will be an integral member of a small team, a key contributor to investment process, and in a role that offers unbounded growth opportunities.
Principal Responsibilities
- Participate in the identification, evaluation, selection, and monitoring of investments and investment managers;
- Maintain, and improve upon, existing analytical tools related to risk, performance, asset allocation, exposures, and liquidity;
- Provide recommendations for new workflows, analytics, diligence procedures, and reporting outputs that enhance the overall efficacy and efficiency of the team’s investment underwriting and decision making;
- Aid in the development and research of novel investment tools, strategies, and implementations;
- Serve as a mentor to junior team members and student interns;
- Utilize various internal systems, including Bloomberg, Morningstar Direct, Advent Axys, and Private Informant;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with strong academic credentials; pre- and post-MBA candidates considered;
- 3 - 5 years of experience working in the investment management or financial services industry; prior experience with an endowment, foundation, or family office is a plus;
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, efficiently prioritize, and collaborate well with a small team;
- Strong written, oral, empirical, and interpersonal communication skills;
- Relevant professional/technical designations (CFA, CAIA, CIPM, FRM) or pursuit thereof;
- Advanced knowledge of investment mathematics, statistics, investment performance, and risk analysis;
- High professional integrity; ability to maintain strict confidentiality; and, commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.
