Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Outstationing Advisor will serve as a proactive liaison between the Adult Education Center of Cape Cod Community College (AEC) and MassHire Career Center in Hyannis, MA to provide two-way referrals for students who want to earn a high school credential, and then complete job training and/or college. The Outstationing Advisor will be stationed at the MassHire Hyannis location for 9 hours per week over 2 days TBD, and will schedule, communicate, and maintain posted hours. This position will work closely with the AEC and MassHire Directors to develop a collaborative practice agreed upon by AEC and MassHire, Hyannis to develop and monitor strategic processes and procedures to identify Cape and Islands shared customers, referrals, and services.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Assist MassHire staff with intake, assessment, and referrals of eligible ABE shared customers.
- Maintain accurate records of customer intakes, assessments, referrals, and other services provided and conducted for mid-year and year-end reports to our funder.
- Plan and supervise AEC class field trips to MassHire and make presentations about MassHire services to Cape and Island students in the ABE classes and AEC or coordinate a presentation on PACT services to MassHire ABE students.
- Document and record students' goal setting activities and outcomes using AEC and MassHire requirements and forms.
- Identify and document eligible ABE students who are connected to MassHire looking for employment or training and are connected with MassHire and WIOA partners to ensure they become shared partners with the workforce system and either enroll in classes or are placed on a waiting list to obtain the related services they need. Conduct follow-up on students after being placed in class or on a wait list.
- Assist students in establishing and maintaining liaisons with High School Equivalency Test Center staff at AEC, MassHire and ABE Islands programs, College admissions, career planning, and financial aid personnel, and collaborate with CCCC offices/departments and other referring support/counseling programs and community agencies that benefit adult learners.
- Assess the need for outside services for students, research those services and make appropriate referrals as necessary, and maintain positive rapport with appropriate public and private social service and health agencies.
- Maintain confidential records of advising notes and activities for each student.
- Work day and evening hours advising students in morning and evening AEC classes.
- Attend monthly AEC and MassHire staff meetings and required activities and participate in ongoing local and state-wide professional development training and conferences, assisting in the training, as needed.
- Some evening hours may be required to interface with evening AEC ABE/ESOL students.
- Assist with special projects, as needed.
- Interface with the AEC Academic and Career Advisors to assist students with AEC course placement, attendance, personal matters that affect participation in their education program, education and career advising, and other concerns related to student academic success and/or job transitions.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student services, adult basic education, ESOL studies or a related discipline.
- Three years of experience working with Adult Learners with demonstrated ability to relate to the needs and interests of adult students enrolled in ABE, ESOL, GED, and HiSET courses.
- Demonstrated experience with multicultural students.
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate.
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Superior time management skill and demonstrated ability to efficiently multitask.
- Familiarity with MassHire of Hyannis and Cape Cod social service agencies.
- Demonstrated experience using information technology including entering and manipulating information in a database format, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Additional Information:
COMPENSATION: $27.00 per hour for up to 10 hours per week, 2 hours/month for staff meetings and 12 hours/year of professional development. Approximate period of employment: November 2018 - June 2019. Non-benefited, grant-funded, MCCC Unit Position.
