Job Description:
Responsible to the Director of Human Resources for the administration and communication of various employee benefits, including health, dental, life/LTD, vision, Flexible Savings Accounts, Health Savings Accounts, and TIAA-CREF. Manages the colleges Family Medical Leave Act policy, as well as all short and long term disability leaves. Assists with the development, implementation and evaluation of related activities. Access to highly confidential employment information.
Essential Functions:
- Manages employee benefit program processes, including new and existing employee enrollment, status change, and termination processing; acts as liaison between employees and benefit companies as questions, issues or requests arise; initiates and processes benefit conversions and/or COBRA continuation; maintains status reports and associated recordkeeping, reviews billing statements and EOB's as applicable.
- Conducts employee orientations to complete necessary new hire documentation and explain the college's benefits program and secure enrollments.
- Manages the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) by educating employees of the policy, securing necessary documentation for approval, and tracking leave time in coordination with supervisors. Provides training or information to supervisors to understand their responsibilities with the regulations and to ensure compliance.
- Manages the short-term and long-term disability processes by initiating, monitoring and tracking documentation, handling all internal and external communications, and ensuring compliance.
- Appointed by President to actively participate in the Benefits Committee and Retirement Investment Committee.
- Works closely with Director of Human Resources to plan, organize and coordinate annual enrollment for health/dental/vision and supplemental insurances.
- Maintains knowledge of Affordable Care Act mandates and regulations. Facilitates and coordinates information by gathering, tracking and reporting on a monthly and annual basis.
- Manages TIAA-CREF enrollments by monitoring eligibility, communicating with participants and payroll, and assisting with employee education initiatives.
- Provide content for HR portal on benefits and related areas in collaboration with the HR Assistant.
- Coordinates the workers' compensation insurance program. Manages and monitors the administrative claims process by initiating required documentation and communications, interacting with insurance carrier, maintaining records and systems, and participating in claims review meetings. Also serves on Environmental Health and Safety Committee.
- Oversees maintenance of employee benefit files and documentation retention requirements.
- Participate in team meetings or training sessions that relate to process improvement within department.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in business management, human resource management or related field required with a 3-5 year of effective experience.
- Broad benefit administration experience desirable.
- Knowledge of carrier/client relations, ERISA, FMLA, COBRA, Workers' Compensation necessary.
- Strong organization skills; Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
