Job Responsibilities:
The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is accepting applicants for a Building/Grounds Specialist II in the Department of Facilities & Engineering. Will be responsible for the grounds maintenance jobs on college property; using mowers, tractors, street sweeper, and other grounds equipment. Will be required to weed, fertilize, cultivate and spray using pesticides and herbicides, campus grounds, and flower beds. Properly plant and prune different species of trees, plants, shrubs and flowers.
Must be able to trim/prune large trees using a man/boom Lift. Will assist in furniture moves and college equipment moves as directed. Must be able to provide labor for college set ups and football stadium cleanups on weekends. Responsible for supporting campus daily clean ups and provide labor to support college special events. Weed, fertilize, cultivate and spray using pesticides and herbicides, campus grounds, and flower beds. Properly plant and prune different species of trees, plants, shrubs and flowers.
Minimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must have relevant experience in grounds maintenance and operating grounds related equipment to include; weed eaters, mowers and blowers required. Valid South Carolina Driver's license is required. Be able to follow written and oral instructions. Must be in good health with adequate strength and endurance to perform the required work. Be able to lift objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds and carry them a distance of 50 feet. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. Must be able to communicate both orally and in writing. Some holiday and weekend work required. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in temperature and humidity extremes including inclement weather. Must be able to work off of elevated platforms and man lifts up to a height of 50 feet off of the ground. Operates vehicles, various lawn and grounds maintenance equipment. Must be able to plant, trim, spray, mow, weed, fertilize, sweep, rake, cultivate, dig, water and other related functions of a Buildings and Grounds Specialist as directed by building and Grounds Supervisors.
