Description:
The Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies reports directly to the Dean and provides creative leadership promoting growth and innovation in faculty scholarship and research, which supports and enhances education programs at the graduate level. The Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies participates in policy development and implementation and is a key member of the College’s leadership team, working with the Dean, the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Faculty Engagement, department chairs, directors, students, faculty, staff, the University administration, and the College’s regional, state, and local constituencies.

The following activities serve as examples of the Associate Dean’s leadership responsibilities.
Leadership for Research Innovation and Development
- Collaborates with department chairs, directors, program coordinators, College’s research committee, faculty, and Office of Vice President for Research to sustain a culture of research excellence and promote collaborative, cross-disciplinary research efforts among faculty, across institutions, and with education partners and agencies
- Develops and sustain a research infrastructure that supports capabilities for research activities and stimulates external funding among state, federal, philanthropic institutions, and funding foundations
- Supports faculty and graduate students in research dissemination through presentations, policy briefs, publications, and follow-up funding
- Supports faculty and the Dean in faculty peer review as well as tenure-track promotion processes
Leadership for Graduate Programs
- Provides leadership for graduate programs, including new and innovative program development informed by continuous assessment
- Oversees graduate programs with respect to orientation, curriculum, scheduling, course delivery, certification, and clinical placements as well as applicable accreditation and ongoing program assessment
- Develops and implements strategic marketing, recruitment, enrollment management plans for masters and doctoral programs
Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in any of the academic disciplines in the College
- National reputation and record of scholarship supporting tenure eligibility at the rank of Full Professor in Clemson’s College of Education
- Academic and professional experience among these skills/competencies
o in academic administration (e.g., academic program leader and/or department chair)
o in inclusive professional environments that foster a commitment to diversity
o with funded grants and publications including research team management, project coordination, and Principal Investigator roles
o with all aspects of graduate programs, innovative delivery, and ongoing assessment and accreditation
