The College of Coastal Georgia

Brunswick, GA 31520
United States

Located on Georgia’s coast midpoint between Savannah and Jacksonville, FL, the College of Coastal Georgia provides an exemplary, affordable baccalaureate education in the natural beauty and abundant sunshine of coastal Georgia. Building upon over half a century of service, the College is becoming a significant and successful force to educate, enrich, engage, and economically enhance the Coastal region and the state overall.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia established this institution in 1961. It opened in 1964, with Brunswick and Glynn County citizens providing a $1 million bond issue for construction of buildings and purchase of the beautiful 193-acre campus. From the late 1980s until 2009, the College offered both associate programs in higher education and post-secondary technical and adult programs. The Regents authorized an off-campus center to serve Camden County residents in 1992 and classes began in the former Kingsland Elementary School in 1993. A new permanent facility, the Camden Center, opened in 2004.

In December 2008, the College of Coastal Georgia was approved by SACSCOC to offer four-year baccalaureate degree programs, embarking the College on a transformative master plan with academic and infrastructure expansions to accommodate 6,000 students by 2020. The master plan included new and redesigned academic facilities, an academic quadrangle with central pedestrian mall, and a new Campus Center and on-campus student housing – Lakeside Village - for occupancy fall semester 2011. The 50,000-square-foot Campus Center provides full dining facilities, bookstore and coffee shop, health center, the Stembler Theatre, and student gathering spaces. New buildings reflect the Spanish Mission architectural style of the region with stucco in an earth-toned palette, red clay tile roofs, and natural colors of metal and stained wood. Covered walkways and breezeways emphasize the gracious Southern climate.

The College’s transformation continues with new degree programs, a comprehensive service-learning initiaticollege_of_coastal_georgia2.jpgve and active engagement with community partners to promote conservation and economic development. New athletics teams, new student organizations, and new outreach efforts are very much in evidence.

The College community embraces its mission to foster academic excellence and individual development; investigate, capture and disseminate 21st century knowledge and skills; provide accessible and affordable higher education to a wide spectrum of learners; and engage actively with the community and region. Through an integrated program of applied knowledge and service-learning, grounded in real-world experiences within the community, the College of Coastal Georgia is an energetic, engaged campus.

Another asset of the College is the local geography: beautiful beaches on the Atlantic Ocean, barrier islands, saltwater marshes, famous golf courses, award-winning resorts, world-class fishing, national monuments, popular state parks, nature preserves, historic cities, quaint villages, and lots of sunshine. Easy access via I-95, two international airports and one regional airport makes student travel and family visits a breeze.

The College of Coastal Georgia is quickly becoming a college of choice for students within Georgia and beyond, providing an affordable, outstanding education for tomorrow's leaders and citizens through service learning, global awareness and engaged entrepreneurship.
