General Description |
The Assistant Dean of Students provides overall leadership for developing, planning, and implementing intentionally designed activities geared toward students that enhance the College’s mission and promote student development and learning. In addition, the Assistant Dean provides direction and leadership for overall student development experiences, oversees student marketing initiatives for campus life programs and services. The Assistant Dean supervises the budgetary functions of the department, which includes management of the Student Fee budget, to ensure compliance with College policies and procedures. By establishing cooperative relationships with faculty and staff within the institution and appropriate constituents outside the institution, the Assistant Dean assists with the development and implementation of co-curricular activities. The Assistant Dean is responsible for policy and procedure development, assessment and supervision of designated staff. |
Specific Responsibilities |
• Provide leadership and vision to staff in the Student Engagement Center to develop an active, high-quality, vibrant student life program at the Main Campus and Regional Centers that promotes collaboration, student engagement, and student success. • Provide supervision and leadership to the Director of Student Engagement; Coordinator of Student Life Marketing; Coordinator of Student Life at the Regional Centers; and corresponding offices/units. • Collaborate with other departments in the Division of Student Development to design, execute, and assess a programming curriculum that delivers a diverse and engaging programming model (day, evening and weekend). • Design and implement co-curricular funding opportunities (out-of-class experiences) for students in collaboration with faculty and other College staff. • Administer a comprehensive leadership program and training for student organization leaders, members and advisors, and provide oversight for all organizational budgets and College-required paperwork. • Assist the College’s Judicial Affairs Officer as needed in managing student conduct. • Manage the planning, budgeting, execution, and assessment of the College’s traditions including, but not limited to, Commencement, New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, Student Involvement Days, Spring Fling, and thematic programming. • Provide direction and supervision for overall marketing and promotion of student development services including the production of the annual Student Handbook and electronic marketing efforts. • Provide primary budget planning, implementation, and oversight for the Student Fee budget. • Assist the Dean of Students as needed in the deployment of new initiatives. • Remain current on issues and trends in student development programs and services. • Participate in campus-wide committees as assigned. • Assume responsibility for divisional operations in the absence of the Dean of Students. • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with the mission, goals, and core values of the College. • Deliver quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional helpful and courteous manner. • Maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds required. • Other duties as assigned. |
Minimum Qualifications |
• Master’s degree required. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning. • Five (5) years of progressive administrative experience in student life, student affairs or student programming including supervision of personnel and budget oversight required. • Demonstrated success collaborating with faculty, nurturing student development, and cultivating campus initiatives required. • Demonstrated experience in creating and promoting learning-centered student activities and innovative student development methodologies that promote and cultivate student engagement required. • Understanding and demonstrated ability to mentor/provide advocacy and interact with wide range and diverse student population required. • Demonstrated ability and experience in the student conduct and accountability process required. • Knowledge of current issues and trends in student affairs programs and services required. • Knowledge of student development theory and demonstrated practical application required. • Knowledge of student learning outcomes development and assessment required. • Ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality with all student academic and non-academic records required. • Demonstrated experience in integrating and using technology in the delivery and assessment of programs, services and activities, as well as using technology as a tool for collecting, analyzing and reporting data required. • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required. • Demonstrated excellent organizational, time management and oral/written communication skills required. • Ability to work independently, multi-task and coordinate numerous detailed programs required. • Ability to work evening and weekend hours required. • Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds required. |
Preferred Qualifications |
• Master’s degree in Higher Education/Educational Administration or related field preferred. • Community college experience preferred. • Management experience in a collective bargaining environment preferred. • Experience with the usage and application of social media preferred. • Demonstrated proficiency an integrated management software such as Banner preferred. |
