General Description |

The Department of Allied Health is accepting applications for part-time teaching positions for ophthalmic technician proficiency certificate at the College’s Northwest Regional Center. The proficiency certificate is designed to prepare students to become ophthalmic technicians who will work under the supervision of optometrists or ophthalmologists to provide patient care by performing many different eye- and vision- related clinical functions. *Applicant credentials will be kept on file until the end of the 2018-2019 academic year. |
Specific Responsibilities |
• Courses cover areas such as Ocular and Ophthalmic Concepts, Ocular Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology, and Optical Dispensing. • Demonstrate a sense of connection and responsibility for helping the College to achieve success through a commitment to its mission, vision, and values. • Actively participate in the academic life of the College. • Communicate effectively, share vision, focus on people, initiate positive change, value differences and foster collaboration. Minimum Qualifications |
• Qualified candidates must have Bachelor’s degree in an ophthalmic or optometric specialty area, or a health related field or education with demonstrated recent experience working as an ophthalmic technician for a minimum of two years or as an optometrist. • Candidates must be certified para-professionals within the optometric/ophthalmic field or be an optometrist. • Candidates will be considered if qualified to teach courses from the following areas: optical dispensing, patient relations/office management, ophthalmic pre-testing, and clinical education. |
Preferred Qualifications |
• Experience teaching at a community college. • Current membership in the American Optometric Association or Pennsylvania Paraoptometric Association. |
