Title: Associate Director of Human Resources – Title IX and Risk Management

Position Summary
Dominican University of California is seeking a dynamic individual for an Associate Director of Human Resources position. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the candidate should have experience with managing risk, compliance, employee relations, and legal issues. The Associate Director oversees all training and professional development including required compliance training as well as professional development and learning. A successful candidate will have Title IX experience.
Responsibilities
Risk Management and Legal
- Respond to faculty, staff, and student risk issues, providing timely and consistent best practices related to addressing concerns and minimizing university liability.
- Serve as University Title IX Coordinator. Coordinate communication and collaboration with Deputy Title IX Coordinators.
- Lead investigations (formal and informal) related to complaints and grievances and provide coordination and oversight for any additional in-house or outside investigators. Act as a point person for campus issues and concerns.
- Manage legal files and issues log documentation.
- Act as Risk Team (RT) lead in terms of setting agenda, facilitating meetings, and guiding work related to initiatives, decisions and work plans.
- Provide oversight for regulatory compliance and assist in addressing labor law issues.
- Develop and maintain policies for regulatory compliance and risk reduction, including the employee handbook and administrative policies.
- Oversee non-employee processing, including independent contractors, volunteers, and agency temps. Address any classification issues including internships, honorariums, graduate assistants, and “worker” partnership agreements.
- Act as liaison and partner for legal counsel related to university risk issues.
- Prepare and submit annual Clery Act Annual Security and Fire Report (ASR) in partnership with the Student Life department.
Training and Development
- Oversee legally required compliance training programs.
- Assist in delivering university employee and professional development, including recommending curriculum, researching content, managing training schedule, coordinating rooms and supplies.
- Provide training to employees and managers on conflict resolution, communication, performance management, healthy team functioning, and risk management.
- Communicate, and track offerings and attendance, ensuring participants receive certificates of completion and feedback surveys.
- Identify and arrange external sources of training, including webinars or outside presenters/experts to the extent possible to expand training offerings.
- Maintain all training slide decks and attendance documentation.
Employee Relations and Performance
- Provide support and coaching to managers, employees, and teams related to employee relations issues, performance issues, and department functioning issues.
- Oversee annual performance evaluation best practices, process, and documentation.
Perform other duties and projects as requested by the Director of Human Resources.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of five years HR management level experience
- Knowledge and applied experience with labor and employment law
- Excellent presentation abilities and experience developing training curriculum
- Proven ability to anticipate and plan in advance for future needs
- Able and skilled at taking initiative and exercising sound judgment at all times
- Strong project management skills and attention to detail
- Strong employee customer service orientation with excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent time management skills; able to lead multiple projects and assignments simultaneously with minimal direction and supervision
- Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite
- High level of skill and accuracy with figures and filing
- Must be professional, diplomatic and able to serve a variety of constituents with equity, fairness and tact
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Title IX requirements, investigations, and best practices
- Experience in Higher Education
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification
