Job Description Summary
Florida’s only public university exclusively teaching science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) is looking for exceptional candidates to serve as the Assistant General Counsel in its Office of the General Counsel.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Assistant General Counsel is a licensed attorney, whose principal function is to support the General Counsel by representing and advising the university, preparing and reviewing legal documents including contracts, assisting with responses to subpoenas and public records requests, drafting regulations and policies, and performing legal research.
Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· As assigned by the General Counsel, assist in properly advising university departments including, but not limited to, Technology Services, Procurement, University Relations, Foundation, and Human Resources
· Prepare and review documents, including contracts involving the University or its direct-support organizations
· Handle subpoenas and other litigation-related documents
· Prepare and deliver training to departments on various legal topics
· Assist in the drafting and promulgation of University regulations and policies
· Other duties as assigned by the General Counsel
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Skills with the following hardware and software applications: MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Lexis Nexis.
· Knowledge of Florida and federal law applicable to higher education
· Skills in legal research and writing
· Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
· Ability to work collaboratively
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must hold a J.D. or equivalent
· Must have at least two years of experience as an attorney
· Demonstrated interest in at least one of the following: litigation, human resources, information technology law, or planned giving
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Experience working in a university or state agency environment
· Experience working in the areas of at least one of the following: litigation, human resources, information technology law, or planned giving
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW.
· Must be a member of the Florida Bar in good standing
· This position requires a comprehensive (level II) criminal background check
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: This position is full-time, salary exempt. The normal work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, however, Occasional overtime (weekends and evenings) may be required.
TARGET HIRING SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
