Director for Teaching and Learning
Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Assessment and Instruction, the newly developed position of Director of Teaching and Learning will work in close collaboration with faculty and staff to provide training and resources on best practices in pedagogy, course design, development, and delivery methods. This resource position serves chiefly to support faculty growth and continuous improvement in instructional delivery through appropriate methods and a strong foundation in understanding the needs of the student learner, particularly in a STEM environment. The Director will need to play an active role in reaching out to the campus community, acting as a leader for educational excellence at the institution and providing the support to enable such a change.
The Director will also be responsible for advancing successful, evidence-based practices in teaching and learning, fostering the scholarship of teaching and learning, and creating a professional development program designed to support pedagogical experimentation, creative delivery methods, and quality instruction.
This is a full-time, 12-month, administrative position with a minimal, periodic teaching role as appropriate to the department and institutional need.
Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES (Include but are not limited to the following):
Collaboration and Consultation:
- Collaborate with program faculty, faculty assembly, and other academic leaders and committees on quality improvement processes that enhance the design and planning of curricula, course delivery, learning environments, and faculty development.
- Provide pedagogical and instructional design consultation and support services to assist faculty in delivering blended learning experiences.
- Meet individually with faculty and staff to study classroom practices; assess teaching and learning needs at the course, program, and institutional levels; and share evidence-based approaches to course design, instruction, educational technology, and Engineering Learning.
- Serve as a resource to individual faculty on classroom issues and solutions.
- Coordinate with the University’s Institutional Effectiveness plan to implement quality assessment of programs.
- Provide support and coordination for the Foundations Sequence associated with our common freshman year curriculum.
- Liaise with Florida Virtual Campus (Florida Shines) and other State University System groups related to distance learning.
Programming:
- Survey faculty for areas of interest and need in professional development, maintain data regarding faculty involvement, satisfaction, and use of services.
- Organize, plan, and facilitate faculty development opportunities including workshops, retreats, brown bag series, guest speakers, and best pedagogical practices for online and blended learning environments.
- Develop a faculty peer mentor program.
- Develop and maintain a repository of current research and resources that support quality instruction, the study of learning, best practices, and professional development opportunities.
- Facilitate and support campus collaborations in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- Offer programming activities for the Faculty Orientation and Development Series.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates should have:
- A demonstrated record of success as an academic leader in the field of faculty development, student academic services, and/or instructional technology as it supports these efforts.
- A successful college-level teaching record in a STEM field.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and planning skills and the ability to work cooperatively and strategically across functions, levels, and disciplines.
- Ability to drive change and implement new programs and services utilizing best practices in teaching and learning.
Minimum:
- Master's degree in a STEM-based discipline with 5 years’ experience in instructional leadership.
Preferred:
- Terminal degree in a STEM-field, preferably engineering education or science education, or a related educational field.

- Must possess a valid driver’s license.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: This position is exempt. The normal work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., however, occasional overtime (weekends and evenings) may be required.
TARGET HIRING SALARY: $95,750 - $105,610, commensurate with experience.
