FVSU is a fully accredited, comprehensive, four-year institution committed to providing strong academic programs, online courses and extracurricular activities to students. More than 70 student organizations that range from sororities and fraternities to honor societies and student government keep the campus buzzing with activities year round.

The university is one of Georgia’s two land-grant institutions and one of the state’s eight historically black colleges and universities. FVSU has the only certified four-year veterinary technology program in the state. The institution also boasts the Cooperative Developmental Energy Program (CDEP), a program that teams with major oil and energy companies across the nation to launch the careers of minorities and women in the industry. CDEP, the only program of its kind in the nation, offers dual degrees in math, engineering, chemistry, biology, health physics and geoscience.

For the academically motivated student, Fort Valley State also has other programs for  high achievers, including the Undergraduate Research Program and the Honors Program.

FVSU is a leading contender in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II in both men’s and women’s athletic programs. Wildcat football, basketball, tennis, track, volleyball, cross country track and softball are among the 11 sports offered. The Health and Physical Education Complex, the site of sports events and memorable special activities, is rated among the finest in the conference and is equipped with an Olympic-size swimming pool, weight room and indoor track.
