General Description of Position: |
The Kansas State University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track drama therapy and theatre faculty appointment to begin August, 2018. Teach graduate courses in drama therapy, mentor graduate research, and teach undergraduate courses as needed in acting, stage management, or theatre management. A specialty in drama therapy, such as Playback Theatre, Sociodrama, Psychodrama, Developmental Transformations, or Ethics is preferred. This faculty member must be active as a researcher and is expected to recruit for the graduate drama therapy program. Additional duties may be assigned as required. |

Kansas State University is implementing an aggressive plan to become a top 50 public research university by 2025. The university is composed of ten colleges and has an enrollment of over 24,000 students with more than 250 majors and options available to its students. The main campus is located in Manhattan, Kansas. The university also has a campus in Olathe and the Polytechnic campus in Salina. The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance has approximately 100 Theatre majors pursuing the B.A. and B.S. degrees; 15 graduate Theatre students pursuing the M.A degree in drama therapy; 220 undergraduate Music majors pursuing the B.M., B.A., and B.M.E. degrees; 36 graduate Music students pursuing M.M. degrees; and offers minors in Music, Theatre, and Dance. The School has 49 full-time and 7 part-time faculty members, is supported by an Associate Director for each of the three areas of Music, Theatre, and Dance, a full-time academic advisor, and by four full-time administrative staff members. The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is accredited by NASM and NAST and is housed within the College of Arts and Sciences, the “intellectual and academic core of the University” with 23 academic units. A land-grant institution, Kansas State University is a Carnegie “very high research” and “engaged” university with more than 4,000 students who participate in curricular and co-curricular activities offered through the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. The Drama Therapy graduate program will apply for approval by the North American Drama Therapy Association in the 2018-2019 academic year. The city of Manhattan, where Kansas State is located, is situated in the rolling Flint Hills of Northeast Kansas, 125 miles west of Kansas City via Interstate 70. Five miles north of the city is Tuttle Creek Reservoir, one of the largest in the Midwest. The 668-acre campus is convenient to both business and residential areas. “The Little Apple” is a classic college town with more than 56,000 residents. |

The Successful Candidate will: |
The successful candidate will have a MFA or doctorate in field related to drama therapy, clinical experience in the drama therapy field, and demonstrated success as a teacher of drama therapy and other theatre courses. |
Required Minimum Qualifications: |
A MFA or doctorate in field related to drama therapy and registry in drama therapy is required. |
Preferred Qualifications: |
Preferred qualifications are: a minimum of three years of professional clinical experience as a drama therapists, demonstrated success in collegiate-level teaching, and experience mentoring graduate student research. |
