GRANT EVALUATION ANALYST & COORDINATOR
Lawrence University was awarded a five-year, federally-funded Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Inclusive Excellence (IE) grant focused on catalyzing Lawrence’s efforts to engage science students of all backgrounds and identities. The grant was awarded in June 2018 and started in September 2018.
The Grant Evaluation Analyst & Coordinator at Lawrence University will assist with the evaluation of the HHMI IE grant including coordinating, collecting, analyzing and reporting evaluation data to inform decision-making and planning in a timely and effective manner. This will involve close collaboration with diverse members of the Lawrence community including the project director, project evaluator, faculty, staff, and administration to design formative and summative assessment and evaluation strategies, as well as extract, collect, and report data to measure progress toward grant goals and objectives. This work will require one to work harmoniously with others outside of Lawrence (i.e., HHMI, external evaluation team). This role is critical as it contributes to the University’s diversity and inclusion efforts, and, ultimately, student success.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Coordinating data collection and preparing data to be used in writing the evaluation and annual reports;
- Conducting qualitative research using focus groups, content analysis, and other qualitative methodologies;
- Interpreting and reporting quantitative and qualitative analyses in written and oral formats;
- Building, merging, and analyzing large data sets;
- Administering surveys, analyzing survey data, and preparing reports of survey findings;
- Assisting the program director in coordinating and/or assessing workshops, retreats, and similar events focused on inclusive pedagogy and mentoring;
- Assisting the program director in grant administration duties including but not limited to preparing internal finance reports, budget tracking, paying invoices, and similar activities;
- Taking and transcribing minutes at meetings related to the HHMI grant;
- Representing the Office of Research Administration at grant-related meetings, conferences, and workshops with and/or in the absence of the Director;
- Complying with grant reporting requirements including assisting the Project Director in preparing annual grant reports, and
- Conducting other duties as requested/assigned.

- Proven analytical, project management, organizational, multi-tasking, problem-solving, prioritizing, and time management skills;
- Focused attention to detail;
- The ability to follow projects through to completion with a focus on quality;
- Proven competency in typing, keyboarding, and data entry skills;
- Working knowledge of data management systems;
- Demonstrated experience in survey design, administration, and analysis;
- A genuine desire to help students succeed;
- A sense of humor;
- The ability to work some evenings on rare occasions.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Two to three years of higher education work experience or an understanding and appreciation for a liberal arts education.
- Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, or related discipline.
- Experience in evaluation of federally- or state-funded grants.
- Prior experience in an institutional research office/setting at a liberal arts institution
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and statistical software (i.e., SPSS, SAS, STATA, R).
- Proficiency with web-based survey software (Qualtrics), open source web content management systems (Drupal), and web enabled enterprise reporting systems (Banner, Hyperion, and/or Argos).
- Experience with data visualization software (i.e., Tableau, Microsoft Power BI) and National Student Clearinghouse services (i.e., Student Tracker).
This is a regular full-time, 12-month (1.0 FTE) benefits-eligible position, which reports to the Director of the Office of Research Administration. The position is term-limited. We are accepting applications until November 15, 2018. The desired start date for the position is January 2, 2019. The position will cease when the grant ceases in 2023.
