Public Relations & Social Media ManagerLawrence University’s Office of Communications seeks a creative individual to serve in the newly created role of Public Relations & Social Media Manager. This new position will serve as the key content creator and manager for the University’s news blog and social media presence, helping to show and tell the Lawrence story in compelling and broad-reaching ways. Working with members of the Communications team and other key University departments, the Public Relations & Social Media Manager helps to raise Lawrence’s visibility and reputation as a college and music conservatory of international renown.
Goals for the Public Relations & Social Media Manager
- Deepen the storytelling power of the communication team through the creation of fresh, compelling, and engaging content across a variety of media, including the University website, social media, magazine, and other marketing materials.
- Collaborate with campus offices and departments to plan, write, and post engaging social media content, including accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and SnapChat, that reflects the University brand and voice.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and relationship building with local, regional, national, and international media to position Lawrence as a trusted source for interesting, diverse, and relevant stories about the research, performances, creations and achievements of our faculty, staff, alumni and students.
Essential duties
- Discover, write, edit, and distribute social posts, news stories and features, press releases, and other content, including e-newsletters and magazine stories.
- Seek out stories and information of interest to the prospective students and families, alumni, parents, donors, and friends.
- Monitor University social media channels and provide timely responses to community comments and inquiries.
- Manage media inquiries and interview requests, cultivating relationships with existing and new media contacts.
- Work with students assigned to assist with the University’s news, feature, and social media content needs
- Attend special events and activities within the university and greater community to collect and distribute content
- Analyze content and spearhead social media campaigns, along with other advertising campaigns
- Draft and distribute important university news and announcements
- Stay current with current digital and multimedia trends and best practices.

- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write across a variety of media
- Knowledge of social media best practices and platforms, as well as public relations principles
- Ability to use content management and media management tools
