Achieving the Dream:
Community Colleges Count Achieving the Dream (AtD) is a multiyear national initiative at over 80 institutions across 15 states created to help community college students succeed. The Lone Star College System has identified the following five key AtD strategies to improve student success for the most at risk students:
- Create a campus climate where early and ongoing intervention is part of the college culture.
- Develop and implement a student success course.
- Focus on a professional development program for faculty and student services staff to promote a culture of evidence and to increase student engagement in the learning and advising pocess.
- Review policies, practices and procedures related to advising, assessment, placement, prerequisites, and payment practices.
- Engage the community in an advisory capacity.
Black Male Summit: Developing Men of Distinction
The LSCS held its first AtD Black-Male Summit entitled, “Developing Men of Distinction” at the Lone Star College-North Harris. The summit was instituted in direct response to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s African-American Male Advisory Committee’s (AAMAC) commitment to recruit and retain African-American males into higher education.

Hispanic Male Summit: Your Future Starts Today/Tu Futuro Empieza Hoy
The LSCS held its first “Hispanic Male Summit: Your Future Starts Today/Tu Futuro Empieza Hoy,” at the Lone Star College-North Harris. The summit was instituted to recruit and retain the underrepresented Hispanic male population into higher education.

International Programs & Services (IPS)
The LSCS International Programs and Services (IPS) integrates more than 1800 students from 95 countries across its six campuses and encourages the involvement of faculty and students in international exploration, service learning projects, faculty exchange, and collaborative partnerships with international governments or universities abroad. The Fulbright Program
The Fulbright Program is a government sponsored international exchange program designed to increase the relationship between the United States and other countries. International Education
The International Education Conference The LSCS and community colleges from across the Gulf Coast region including Lee College, College of the Mainland, Wharton County Junior College, Houston Community College, Galveston College, and Brazosport Community College held its 6th Annual International Conference “Asia: Bridging the New World” in April 2009 at the LSC-Tomball location. IEW at LSC-North Harris was celebrated through traditional wardrobe by students from around the world.
International Education Week
International Education Week (IEW) is sponsored by the US Departments of Education and State to promote multicultural awareness for anyone interested in international education. For the past 10 years, LSC-Kingwood has observed IEW to promote multicultural understanding and international education. During the events of the IEW (November 16th-20th, 2009), students, faculty and staff took part in a variety of activities including cultural exhibits and presentations, ethnic dinner, dance, and music performances. One of the most anticipated events was the ethnic attire contest, in which employees participated.

Desi Student Association -- The Desi Student Association helps students at LSC-CyFair become more knowledgeable of the South Asian cultures.
G.L.B.T.A. -- This group provides a support system for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender students by promoting acceptance and diversity while providing a safe atmosphere free of prejudice.
International Heritage Society -- The International Heritage Society’s supports multiculturalism at LSC-CyFair while helping students to connect and become more active in the local community.
Model United Nations -- The LSC-CyFair Model United Nations promote the diplomatic mission of the United Nations by engaging in thoughtful, reasoned, discussion and by supporting research on global issues in preparation for the national Model United Conference.
P.A. L.S. -- The PALS Club encourages community citizenship on- and off-campus. Students are involved in helping the community, participating in local events, and educating others about disability awareness.
Sign and Deaf Culture Club -- The Sign and Deaf Culture Club creates a friendly environment for students to practice signing skills. This club works with and builds ties with the deaf community and encourages cultural awareness and participation in community activities that support the deaf culture, deaf community, acceptance, and general community wellbeing.
UMOJA -- The UMOJA focuses on issues, events, and people that affect African Americans on the LSC-CyFair campus and within the greater Cy-Fair community, to create, promote, and sponsor African American activities.
X-Présate Hispanic Student Organization -- The X-Présate Hispanic Student Organization supports academic excellence, preserves Hispanic culture, teaches the Spanish language, and assists Hispanic students in adapting to American culture.

ASL -- The ASL opens the doors for the deaf and the hearing-impaired to interact with one another and learn about community service, discuss relevant topics and to have social fellowship opportunities.
African American Student Organization-- The AASA supports the mission of cultural enhancement, learning resources, diversity and leadership. The club promotes a culture of student success which in turn increases the student's connection to the college. Although comprised mainly of African American students, membership, the AASA is open to all students, and activities are directed to the entire campus population.
Baptist Student Ministry -- Open to all students, BSM wishes to promote Christian fellowship. Gay-Straight Alliance The Gay-Straight Alliance encourages tolerance and understanding, creates a safe environment for discussion, and builds bridges among Gay, Straight, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, & Transgender people.
Generation Student Ministries -- The Generation Student Ministries provide students a chance to serve the college, exercise faith with fellow students, and gather together for encouragement and inspiration.
Intercultural Student Organization -- The Intercultural Student Organization (ISO) promotes diversity and multicultural understanding at Lone Star College-Kingwood and the community. Membership in this organization is open to all Lone Star College-Kingwood students regardless of their ethnicity.
Voces Latinas Hispanic Organization-- Voces Latinas Hispanic Organization consists of many different Hispanic Cultures. They teach students about Hispanic cultures and are willing to learn about other cultures.

30 Something and Beyond -- 30-Something and Beyond helps students close to or older than 30 years assimilate into college life, learn about resources available at Lone Star College-Montgomery, and support each other.
Club Español -- Club Español endorses the Spanish language and the various Hispanic cultures.
Federation of Queer Students -- Federation of Queer Students provides a supportive community for GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered) students at LSC-Montgomery and the surrounding area. The club, which is open to all, seeks to promote awareness and tolerance of diverse attitudes and lifestyles, and to erase stereotypes and misconceptions.
International Student Organization -- The International Student Organization provides students with opportunities to become aware of and learn about international cultures.
Japanese Culture and Language Club -- The Japanese Cultural and Language Club fosters cultural awareness and education on campus and in the community.
Nerd Culture Awareness Organization -- The Nerd Culture Awareness Organizations purpose is to promote the intricacies of nerd culture.
Silent Hands (American Sign Language Club) -- Silent Hands raises awareness of ASL (American Sign Language) and deaf culture.

African American Student Association (AASA) -- The AASA promotes awareness of African American heritage by empowering students who are striving for academic excellence and preparing for personal success.
Asian Student Association for Progress (ASAP) -- ASAP’s purpose is to promote cultural awareness and diversity of all Asian and Asian American cultures; provide educational support to achieve academic and career goals; build a supportive network with on and off campus organizations; cultivate a service oriented environment to build leadership potential; and provide a space for creative expression.
Gay and Lesbian Organization of Students in Support (G.L.O.S.S.) -- The G.L.O.S.S. increases AIDS awareness, promotes the availability of community resources, and creates a supportive environment for everyone regardless of sexual orientation.
International Student Alliance (ISA) -- The ISA serves as a support group for incoming international students and unites the diverse cultures on campus.
Latin American Student Organization (L.A.S.O.) -- The L.A.S.O. inspires the positive influence of Latin and Hispanic culture through unity and education.
Latter Day Saints Students Association (LDSSA) -- The LDSSA encourages and supports members in achieving academic, service, social and religious goals, and in maintaining a balanced life consistent with the LDSSA’s standards.
Show of Hands -- Showing Hands promotes awareness of deaf culture and American Sign Language. Hearing and deaf students are welcome and an interpreter is available at all club functions.

Black Student Leaders of Today -- The Black Leaders of Today (BLT) promotes a better union between the African American as well as the LSC-Willow Chase community and collaborates with other organizations to promote cultural diversity.
Culture Club-- The Culture Club is to reaffirm that culture should be regarded as the set of distinctive material, intellectual and emotional features of society or a social group, and that it encompasses, in addition to art and literature, lifestyles, ways to living together, value systems, traditions, and beliefs.
Gay Straight Alliance -- The purpose of the gay straight alliance is to promote a safe environment for students of all orientations, to advance knowledge and communication, build bridges, and to foster tolerance and acceptance for all.
Campus Crusade for Christ-- Campus Crusade For Christ is a club dedicated to enlightening students on what it means to be a Christian.
Salsa Club -- The Salsa Club is has members of all ethnic backgrounds. The club is maintains a learning environment for students about the Hispanic culture.
Young Conservatives of Texas -- The purpose of this club is to encourage and assist students in pursuing the American ideal of liberty through the venues of activism including the freedom of speech, the freedom of press, and the freedom of assembly.
