Searching for a post-doctoral research fellow in the Department of Medicine, Loyola University Medical Center, Chicago, USA. Our primary focus is to develop high throughput screening methods for identifying lead compounds using new drug libraries, synthetic molecules, approved drugs and natural products for treating protozoan diseases, specifically Malaria, Leishmaniasis, Chagas disease and Toxoplasmosis. These parasites are still continuing to be threat globally, currently no vaccines and treatment primarily depended on pharmacotherapy. Rapid emergence of drug resistance to commonly used drugs, coupled with limited availability of second-line therapeutics creates an immediate need to discover new and effective drugs. Besides the problem of drug resistance and toxicity, currently used drugs cause adverse effects on the host immune system (immune dysregulation). Therefore, our approach is to discover and develop drugs that target parasite as well have beneficial effect on the host immune response. Furthermore, we will utilize in-silico analysis, including molecular docking and structure-based screening to identify putative targets, mechanisms of actions of each lead compounds and in-vitro enzymatic assays to validate.
