Position Summary
The Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) is the primary office at the University responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and city laws and regulations regarding equal opportunity, affirmative action, and Title VI, Title VII and Title IX Compliance. Reporting to the Executive Director and Deputy Director of the OEO, the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Investigator will be responsible for leading independent and unbiased investigations of complaints of discrimination, harassment and retaliation in accordance with New York University’s Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy and Complaint Procedures for Employees. The EEO Investigator will collaborate and consult with the Office of General Counsel, the Provost’s Office, Human Resources, and other University offices regarding matters related to the University’s equal opportunity policies.
Qualifications
Required Education:
J.D. degree
Required Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years’ of recent and professional experience conducting investigations related to employment-based discrimination, harassment, and retaliation or employment litigation.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough and efficient investigations. Excellent judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information. Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving, interviewing, and investigation. Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess and negotiate complex, highly sensitive situations. Superb written and oral communication skills, including skill in writing concise, logical analytical reports to convey complex issues. Excellent critical thinking skills, including the demonstrated ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate resolution of difficult challenges while maintaining strict confidentiality and sensitivity. Ability to produce high quality work products with attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs. Ability to maintain neutrality and work under stress. Ability to work collaboratively and professionally across multiple constituencies to resolve complaints in a neutral, sensitive manner. Working knowledge of nondiscrimination laws and compliance regulations including Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the ADEA). Ability to travel to the NYU Abu Dhabi campus (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) on University business as needed.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Juris Doctor with demonstrated employment litigation experience. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations. Experience relative to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, including review and evaluation of requests for workplace accommodations. Experience working in a unionized environment. Experience working in a higher education environment or with higher education clients.
J.D. degree
