Position Summary
Major Position Responsibilities
- Operate complex accelerator, beam line systems and related systems and equipment according to standard operating procedures
- Observe laboratory quality management standards, work control processes, safety procedures, and activity guidelines; successfully completes periodic safety training, and performs work safely with respect for others
- Adapt to changes or modifications in operation, and responds to alarms and emergencies and communicates in accordance with standard operating procedures
- Interact with facility users and responds to their operational needs
- Participate in the assembly and repair of equipment components, and assists in requisitioning parts, components and systems
- Keep accurate and detailed records and logs of events, effectively uses the work order system, and investigates and resolves assigned trouble reports following guidelines
- Follow the applicable published schedules for facility operation, and assists in scheduling equipment use
- Work collaboratively to address operational issues, and trains staff and students in operational procedures
- Interface with facility users during experimental runs, respond to operational requests within their scope, and contact cognizant experts for other issues
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four-year college program in Systems or Computer Science; or Engineering or Physics, with coursework in Systems or Computer Science; one to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in electronics, mechanical and/or electrical drafting and fabrication techniques, or computer programming in one or more languages used by the NSCL; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
