Ensures successful IT execution in performing complex, highly specialized and technical activities to analyze, develop, configure, maintain, and administer information systems, and system administration services pertaining to the mission-critical Netlab Instructional Virtual System; troubleshoots and solves technical problems related to the system; and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to the assigned are of responsibility.

Receives direction from an assigned supervisor. - Responsibilities and Duties

Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Analyze and assess the technological needs of the Netlab system; perform server administration tasks including installing and configuration of operating systems, virtual machines, network services, drivers, and other peripherals.
- Provide technical support in the installation and problem solving analysis in the installation, maintenance and servicing of the Netlab and related system software and hardware components.
- Ensure the effective creation of the new Netlab system in parallel environments.
- Ensure system security and integrity at all levels of system administration protecting all user accounts, groups, and data.
- Develops, implements, and maintains system backup/recovery plans, network security standards, and administrative tasks pertaining to Netlab systems.
- Maintain regular communication with the project team and attends regional Netlab meetings to ensure project completion of deliverables.
- Evaluate, test and implement upgraded Netlab systems or systems software packages; install new versions, releases or maintenance levels of existing systems.
- Review, evaluate and analyze new or updated software or operating systems; confer with Cisco Academy Instructor and recommend modifications to existing Netlab systems.
- Detect, isolate and resolve Netlab problems; utilize vendor coordination and support as needed; implement bypasses or other resolutions. Develop and document maintenance logs, performance reports, and operational procedures including system recovery methods.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of information systems.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Qualifications

Knowledge of:
- Server virtualization, VMWare, MS Virtual Server, Cisco Routers and Cisco Switches.
- Current and emerging operating systems, networking practices, and programming standards.
- Methods and techniques used in the installation, troubleshooting, upgrading and problem resolution of information systems.
- Operational characteristics of various networks, and software packages.
- Methods and techniques of system design.
- Principles and procedures of quality assurance and security related to computer information systems.
- Modern office procedures, methods and equipment.
- Communication concepts, protocols, devices, and network/application monitoring tools.
- Multi-tiered internet/intranet computing environments.
Ability to:
- Independently perform systems analysis activities.
- Install, troubleshoot and upgrade server based information systems.
- Evaluate, test, implement and support new operating systems.
- Analyze and assess the technological needs of the Netlab system.
- Detect, isolate and resolve Netlab problems.
- Anticipate system and network problems, develop and implement a plan of action.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision and exercise independent action and good judgment while maintaining District standards and guidelines.
- Operate standard office equipment including computers and associated software applications.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Stay abreast of changing technology and recommend upgrades and acquisitions for new hardware and software based on requirements.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds and disabilities of community college students and staff.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time; moderate lifting requirements; extensive use of computer keyboard.
Desirable Qualifications:
