Purpose of Job |
The hiring of a postdoctoral research associate is for the purpose of best execution of and collaboration on overlapping research projects in Animal Science that Dr. Mason will be conducting over the next three years that are funded by Evans Allen. The projects deal with increasing capacity in animal science through reproductive management and efficiency in cattle and goats. |
Scope of Responsibilities |
This position is primarily a research positon, focusing on the objectives outlined in ongoing, and future research projects, and proposals. Specific research activities will be assigned jointly by PIs of the research projects. It may involve supervising undergraduate and graduate students working in the laboratories on technical matters. It may also involve teaching of some basic courses in animal science. |
Essential Job Functions |
Research responsibilities include, but are not limited to performing routine experiments in the areas of physiology, genetics, nutrition, summarizing data, and drafting research reports. Specifically, •Set up and manage the operation of an Animal Science (endocrine and genetic) lab and assist with graduate and undergraduate projects in Animal Science •To assist in identifying the role(s) of progesterone on regulating endometrial transcriptome and conceptus expression in cattle •To assist in investigating the reproductive performance and economics of` Kiko and Spanish breed of goats in an accelerated breeding program, under a semi-intensive management system. |
Qualifications |
This position requires a Ph.D. in animal reproductive physiology, agricultural life sciences/genetics, animal nutrition or related areas. Prior experience in cattle and goats are highly desirable. Experiences and demonstrable understanding of reproductive physiology and management of cattle and goats are a plus. A good record of bench-work and field-work experience, and demonstration of capability of conducting research under supervision are required. |
