Position Information

This is a part-time (.75 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before 6/30/2019, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. Incumbent works 10 months per year and is paid over 12 months. Anticipated month(s) off will be December 15 - January 15 and July 24 - August 23. The Academic Coordinator will assist student-athletes who are at-risk in developing and achieving academic objectives through one-on-one meetings. Academic Coordinators model and teach successful study skills and strategies as well as how to utilize tutorial services on GradesFirst. They will direct student-athletes to the appropriate university resources necessary for their academic, athletic, and personal success. The goal of the mentoring program is to provide student-athletes with the skills necessary to foster independent learning by monitoring each student’s academic progress using numerous resources. Academic Coordinators will take on the role of setting up and leading review sessions for specific classes as part of their duties. Academic Coordinators also provide tutorial service for specific subject courses in which they are competent. Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $2,133 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,843 - $3,478 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Qualifications

||
Minimum Qualifications Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level, job-related education may be substituted for the required experience. Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills Master’s Degree in related field (or working towards completion of Master’s Degree in related field). Prior experience working with at-risk students and student-athletes. Prior experience leading and setting up review sessions. High-level knowledge of NCAA rules. Prior experience as a Division I student-athlete. Possession of long-term goal to work in the field of student-athlete academic support services departments. |
