Position Information

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. Under the direction of the Director, School of Nursing and the College of Health and Human Services Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, the incumbent will provide high quality, accessible and consistent advising services to both potential and enrolled undergraduate nursing students. The incumbent facilitates the successful recruitment, admission, retention, progression and graduation of students. In addition, the Student Advisor processes all communications with individual students regarding School of Nursing policies and assists in the transition of students who no longer meet requirements for continuing in the major. Undergraduates include both traditional students admitted as first-time freshmen, and as well as transfer The incumbent is accountable for the advisement of prospective first-time freshmen and transfers, and continuing SDSU students on a wide variety of complex issues. The incumbent provides advisement via individual sessions, group sessions, and workshops; assists students in the development of education plans; helps students to acquire relevant information and services; interprets and explains policies; assists with course selection; explains and clarifies educational goals. The incumbent is responsible for mediating and resolving complex student issues and providing referrals to appropriate School, College, and campus resources. He or she works closely with the Director, School of Nursing to ensure that student needs are being met and that student issues are addressed. The incumbent will also be responsible for analyzing statistical data, including trends in graduation rates, time to graduation, and other factors related to student success, and reporting outcomes to the Director. The incumbent provides data in a timely manner for completion of yearly reports to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and to the CA Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), as well as internal reports as needed. Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $4,472 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,179 - $5,942 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field is required. Graduate education and/or experience advising undergraduate students is preferred. Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
