Job Description:

In addition, conservatory performance faculty have historically had a significant national and international profile in performing and teaching at the time of hire.Note that Lawrence University is on a ten-week trimester system.
The Assistant Professor of Cello will be responsible for studio teaching of cello including chamber music coaching, recital preparation, performing with the Lawrence Chamber Players and other faculty ensembles in a wide range of styles from baroque to new music, including improvisation. The person will also be responsible for other educational activities which could include: classroom teaching in topics such as music theory, music history, pedagogy or related topics; leading or hosting workshops, camps or clinics for outside community members, or prospective or visiting students; contributing to string curriculum innovation; or leading efforts to broaden Lawrence University’s influence and reach in the musical community such as interactive performances or sessions in collaboration with community and school organizations on topics such as musical entrepreneurship, musical education or other topics. Such additional community engagement and education activities will be developed based on candidates’ interests and experience.
In addition, all permanent professors at Lawrence University, including the person who fills this position, are required to teach in Lawrence’s Freshman Studies program on an intermittent basis, currently about every-other year. The Freshman Studies curriculum presents an interdisciplinary introduction to the liberal arts intended to support new students’ fundamental skills as readers, writers and thinkers. Additional responsibilities include all service related activities associated with a tenure-track position including student recruiting, student advising, participation in committee assignments, and other forms of institutional service.
