Functions as a therapeutic consultant in areas that may include rational and appropriate use of medications, clinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, disease state management and nutrition. Areas of focus may include but are not limited to evaluating and addressing drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, contraindicated medications, inappropriate therapeutic regimens, adverse drug reactions, pharmacokinetics, disease state management and rational effective medication regimens. Accurately and completely enters patient assessment data into written chart format. Monitors patient response and documents interventions as appropriate. Actively supports formulary management and the overall medication use process. Ensures appropriate and cost effective drug therapy through progressive clinical services. Critically evaluates drug therapy and makes recommendations to improve patient medication regimens. Strives to improve patient safety in all aspects of performance. Assists in the design and implementation of clinical drug research. Educates pharmacy staff on research studies being performed. Responsible for the development and maintenance of oncology protocols in Intellidose. Conducts educational activities that support the advancement of the pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and allied professionals where applicable on medication therapies and related topics. Applies the principles of continuous quality improvement consistent with job expectations. Incorporates quality improvement principles into other activities and projects (i.e. data collection, documentation). Develops criteria for drug use evaluations, medication use indicators and disease-based evaluations. Participates in the duties of the Staff Pharmacists and performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy Services.
The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Pharm D degree is required. Consideration will be given to all candidates who have been grandfathered by the State of Florida to keep their licenses active /current if obtained before the changes to the Pharmacist's license (Pharm D requirement) took place. This also includes candidates from other countries that have obtained a Florida license. State of Florida Pharmacist license is required. One year of experience.

Patient safety is a top priority. As a result, during the Influenza ("the flu") season (September through April), the University of Miami School of Medicine requires all employees who provide ongoing services to patients, work in a location (all Hospitals and clinics) where patient care is provided, or work in patient care or clinical care areas, to have an annual influenza vaccination.
