Position Title | Visiting Position 3-Year Human Biopsychology |
Job Summary and Requirements |
The Department of Psychology at Denison University invites applicants for a 3-year visiting position beginning August 2019. We seek applicants with a Ph.D. in Biological Psychology, Behavioral Neuroscience, Physiological Psychology, or a related field, with expertise in research with human participants. Examples of desirable research programs include but are not limited to autonomic function (e.g., blood pressure, heart rate, cardiac reactivity), human psychopharmacology (e.g., behavioral effects of nicotine, caffeine, or alcohol), or physiological indices of stress (e.g., salivary cortisol research). Research programs that emphasize neuro-imaging techniques (e.g., fMRI, PET, EEG, MEG) will not be considered. Applicants with degrees in other areas (e.g., Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology), or whose research uses non-human animals will not be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to teach (1) a content course in Biological Psychology, (2) an upper-level Biological Psychology Research course with human participants, (3) an upper level course in the candidate’s area of specialty, and (4) Introductory Psychology with a significant laboratory component. Preference will be given to candidates who will develop human biopsychology lab activities for our Introductory Psychology course. The teaching load is 6 courses per academic year. Applicants should have a research program that can be conducted in the Psychology Department laboratory space. Departmental and institutional support is available for lab course activities and optional summer research. We seek applicants with a commitment to, or evidence of success, in teaching, and a clear motivation to mentor undergraduates in a liberal arts setting. Denison University is an academically rigorous liberal arts college with an increasingly diverse campus community. It offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. Denison is located in the village of Granville, 30 minutes from Columbus, Ohio, the state capitol, which hosts a wide range of cultural and artistic opportunities. Granville also offers an excellent public school system and easy access to outdoor activities. All application materials must be submitted online to https://employment.denison.edu. We do not accept hard copy submissions. |

If you fail to provide any required document, your application will not be complete. Thus, it will not be made visible to the search committee. Candidates are also strongly urged to include the following two optional documents. Please use “other Document 1” to attach preprints and reprints. Please use “other Document 2” to attach syllabi from other courses, and evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student course evaluations). Therefore, if you would like to submit, for example, teaching evaluations from three courses, first combine them into one document before uploading. All materials submitted should reflect the candidate’s qualifications relative to the desired teaching and research criteria described above. Special Instructions to the Applicant and Reference Writer Instructions* All applicants must provide 3 names of references, complete with email addresses. Once the application is successfully submitted and the applicant receives a confirmation number, an email will automatically be sent by Denison’s applicant tracking system to those email addresses listed. Instructions will be provided in this email to reference writers, including a unique secure portal link for each referee to upload an electronic letter of recommendation to the applicant’s online application. Please note that references will not receive their emails and will not be able to submit their letter until the applicant has submitted his/her completed application. Denison will only accept electronic recommendation letters uploaded in the applicant tracking system. Reference letters will continue to be accepted after the application closing date, since references will only be able to submit their letter after the candidate has submitted the application. *Using a dossier service? You must contact this service to obtain an appropriate dossier-generated email address. Please use this email address when prompted for reference name and email. For further explanation of how dossier services upload recommendation letters, please see Interfolio’s information site as an example.
