Message from the Chief Diversity Officer
Welcome to the Office of Institutional Diversity (OID). Metropolitan State University of Denver is committed to becoming the preeminent public urban college in the nation, and believes that placing a high value on diversity and inclusive excellence are essential elements toward reaching this important goal.
Metro State values diversity and has placed the action to “Embrace and Promote Diversity” as one of its four strategic planning goals. The Office of Institutional Diversity serves as an agent and resource to provide leadership on issues related to diversity. Our goal is to support and promote diversity in all aspects of campus life to include the design and development of initiatives that embrace and support diversity, and that move the institution down the path of “Inclusive Excellence”.
Inclusive excellence is the practice of moving beyond numeric measurements as the only strategy to promote diversity. Inclusive excellence involves embedding the practices and philosophies that encourage diversity in every aspect of an organization. Moreover, inclusive excellence involves institutionalizing systemic practices and philosophies, thus generating a broader outcome in regards to: inclusivity, excellence, cultural competence, innovation, synergy and pride.
The Office of Institutional Diversity believes that a college community is at its best when its faculty, staff, students and community have a place to grow and thrive. The Office of Institutional Diversity’s vision is to advance inclusive excellence, with this being reflected in our leadership, faculty, staff and students; through our policies, procedures and practices; within our organizational structures; throughout our curriculum; and woven into the fabric of our institution. To this end, the Office of Institutional Diversity works to uphold the values of the College mission and the strategic plan by serving as a resource and providing leadership and oversight on issues related to diversity and inclusive excellence.
Again, welcome to Metro State’s Office of Institutional Diversity, and please feel free to contact our office if we can be of assistance to you in regards to your diversity mission. Remember, “You can have diversity without excellence but you can’t have excellence without diversity.”
Sincerely,
Myron R. Anderson, Ph.D.
Associate to the President for Diversity
