Description:
The Department of Environmental Science seeks a full-time Lecturer to begin immediately. The position will be offered as renewable, multi-year 12-month contract, with benefits. The appointment is non-tenure track but does offer the opportunity for promotion to Senior Lecturer and Master Lecturer. A portion of the lecturer’s teaching load will be reassigned to develop educational public programing for Gloucester County, New Jersey. The person hired will be expected to develop outdoor-based educational programming for the university and county, focused on Scotland Run Park and the Edelman Fossil Park of Rowan University. Additionally, the lecturer will be expected to contribute to the academic life of the department, school, and university by mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, developing courses and curricula, participating in faculty governance, and engaging in a broad range of service activities.
Requirements: A Ph.D. in biology, ecology, or a closely related field of study, with a minimum of five years of university teaching experience at the instructor level or higher. Experience developing and delivering outdoor public programing is required. Zoological or botanical expertise in a particular group of organisms is required. The person hired must be both an expert in the identification of the plants, animals, and mushrooms of southern New Jersey, and an expert in outdoor biological field methods. Strong communication skills and a desire to communicate with the public are essential. The position is primarily outdoor-based and the individual hired must be willing and able to work outdoors in hot, cold, and inclement weather. Additionally, the lecturer must be willing to work a shifted schedule that includes weekends and some evenings to provide public programing.
