Nature & Purpose of Position |
Serves the Proposed SHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine (applicant status seeking accreditation) by planning, implementing, and directing programs, initiatives, services, and functions aimed at medical student support across the continuum. |
Primary Responsibilities |
Oversees all academic support services and student resources across the continuum. Plans, develops and implements academic support services for students at all campuses/locations. Works directly with leadership at SHSU and the Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) program. Serves as a liaison for shared services such as counseling, support, and other resources. Provides leadership and oversight to a department. Assists in the development of policies and operational procedures for the overall department. Participates in the planning and support of student organizations (clubs, organizations, and faculty sponsors) and student government (officers) by facilitating communications and activities. Works with admissions personnel to encourage students to select SHSU and assists with tours and presentations on interview days. Plans, organizes, and leads student orientation, research day, lunch and learn activities, and student activities (sponsored speakers, sponsored travel). Actively engages in outreach programs (community outreach, free clinics, and mission trips). Organizes activities and responsible for record keeping of reports for drug screening, flu shots, and EMT/BLS training. Develops and implements processes and procedures to streamline and enhance academic and student support services. Collaborates with leadership, faculty, staff, and students to ensure students receive the support, attention and information required to manage their educational responsibilities and access to a variety of resources. Performs other related duties as assigned. |

Demonstrates personal initiative and leadership abilities to deal with a rapidly changing environment. Proficient in computer and software skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills – ability to multi-task and complete work in required timelines. Attention to detail. Must exhibit a high level of professionalism, executive ability, and a keen understanding of protocol. Ability to organize work effectively and prioritize objectives. Ability to exercise discretion, excellent reasoning, and independent judgment. Skilled in directing multiple tasks, setting priorities, and organizing operations. Asset and fiscal resources management skills preferred. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with administration, faculty, staff, and the public. Strong communication skills, both orally and written. Requires critical judgment for the department, in which very serious consequences on decision-making can occur. Interprets and applies complex directives, policies, regulations, statutes, and procedures, and/or written guidelines for a department or major work group. This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). This position will move to Conroe upon completion of the medical school facility. |
