Educational and Experience Requirement |
High school graduate or GED equivalent with at least three years experience in a laboratory at a university or college in applied animal science, equine science, meat science, plant science laboratory environment, or in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities. |
Nature & Purpose of Position |
Performs under supervision, a wide variety of routine and technical tasks including maintaining and operating a laboratory for an academic unit, learning center or research project or grant. |
Primary Responsibilities |
Interprets and applies routine but moderately complex and detailed directives requiring limited judgment. Ordinary attention and care to tasks such as, but not necessarily limited to: custodial services to restrooms, classrooms, labs and adjacencies of assigned facilities, maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies, ordering supplies, general equipment maintenance, and repair and sanitation. Upholds Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and documents as directed by faculty or the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Maintains a positive work environment, collegial, and complies with university and government procedures, standards, rules and regulations. Upholds the University standards and complies with the University and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and regulations. Expects to maintain a clean and orderly appearance of assigned facilities and uphold the department and university academic, research and service mission. Performs other related duties as assigned by department chair, faculty, or staff. |
Other Specifications |
Must be familiar with common agriculture equipment and laboratory equipment associated with animal science, equine science, meat science, and plant science. Be able to follow written and oral instruction and fulfill daily duties unsupervised. Will require working outdoors in both hot and cold environments with frequent contact with faculty, students, and animals. |
