Position Information

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before 07/22/2019, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. This is the entry level position and involves responsibility for day-to-day ordinary and recurring purchasing activities for which there are well-defined instructions, models, and precedents. Typical assignments involve procurement of basic supplies, equipment, and services, expediting purchasing documentation so as to ensure that goods are properly received and payments authorized on a timely basis. Duties may include some clerical tasks but the majority of the responsibility is of a technical nature related to purchasing and/or expediting. Purchasing authority is limited and clearly defined. Work product is generally reviewed by higher level purchasing staff. This position may obtain telephone bids, or informal written bids, place standing orders, verify cost information, establish records, review documents for compliance with purchasing criteria, gather information for others to use, and process a variety of purchase documents. This position may be expected to apply pre-existing specifications to subsequent, routine documents and to develop original specifications for non-technical purchases, with guidance and supervision. Work is typically limited in scope. Work is generally confined to routine purchasing/expediting activities. Work assignments have well-defined guidelines or processes to follow as guides. Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $5,783 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,293 - $5,783 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Qualifications

||
Minimum Qualifications Equivalent to an undergraduate degree in purchasing, accounting, marketing, general business or other appropriate field. Additional experience which has demonstrated that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown may be substituted for the required education on a year of year basis. Work assignments require excellent desktop skills using software such as Word, Excel, Calendar Software such as Meeting Maker or Google, and Outlook with the ability to toggle from on application to another. Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills Possess knowledge of State policy and procedure to assure purchases are made in the best interest of the State. Four years of progressively more difficult and responsible general clerical or administrative assignments of which at least one year is varied purchasing activities, prior experience utilizing integrated computer software system such as Oracle, CMS/Peoplesoft, Banner, or SAP to perform assignments is strongly preferred. |
