Position Information

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before 06/30/2020, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. Under the direction of the Associate Director, and in coordination with the Director, the incumbent serves as a Career Counselor, SSP III and performs the following duties in a responsible and professional manner: Career Development - The incumbent provides responsive, informed, confidential, and professional group and individual career development counseling to students and alumni. The incumbent tracks and records client progress by using the current systems, and by reporting as directed to related programs and efforts. Diversity Engagement and Programming - The incumbent creates career-focused workshops and programming to provide responsive outreach and career development to diverse students, student organizations and student government. The incumbent supports and develops alumni, employer, and community-focused programming that supports the University’s diverse student body. The incumbent leads departmental coordination of all career fairs offered by the center, and those offered in collaboration with other departments. Peer and Professional Mentoring -The incumbent works with the Executive Director and career center leadership team to develop and run an Aztec Student Career Peer Support program. As assigned and under the supervision of the appropriate administrator, the incumbent serves in a professional mentoring capacity to graduate interns or entry-level career counseling staff. Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $4,554 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,554 - $6,488 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field; including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related. Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required. A Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
