Position Information

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. Under general supervision, and in accordance with schedules or instruction, incumbent operates construction equipment (backhoes, trenchers, front-end loaders, dump trucks, tractors, etc.) and performs incidental manual labor (moving heavy objects, removing construction debris, pick and shovel work, etc.) in connection with the assigned project. Incumbent operates equipment to support various Facilities Services shops/divisions in utility repair and installation; road and parking lot improvement; building site preparation; lawn and turf renovation/top dressing. May be required to perform excavation, backfilling, making cuts and grading, etc. according to plans and drawings; may be required to perform such work without plans or drawings. Incumbent assures that excavation and material placement are performed according to acceptable standards for construction and in compliance with general industrial safety standards.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $4,683 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,371 - $5,920 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Equivalent to one year of heavy equipment operation, including regular or intermittent operation of vehicles, preferably related to heavy construction such as large track-type tractors, large tow trucks, tractor semitrailer combinations, bulldozers, or land planes and involving routine service and minor maintenance of the vehicles operated.
