This recruitment will be used to establish a pool of candidates for current and future full-time, permanent (probationary) appointments. Work schedule to be arranged. The Police Dispatcher is an entry level, non-sworn, support position for the University Police Department. Under general supervision of a Dispatch Supervisor and Communications Center Manager, a Police Dispatcher will perform a variety of specialized support duties within the University Police Department’s Communications Center. Support duties may include: radio dispatching for police officers, parking officers, and community service officers; answering 9-1-1, non-emergency and administrative phone lines; assisting patrons at the front lobby walk-up counter; providing tactical dispatching and scribing support for incident command operations; operating a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system; accessing and utilizing various law enforcement database systems; monitoring fire, CCTV and access control systems; assisting with public education and outreach programs; and offering administrative or clerical support for other law enforcement related services. Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $5,127 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,096 - $5,127 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Qualifications

||
Minimum Qualifications One year of verifiable experience using a switchboard and two-way radio communication system in a law enforcement or comparable agency within the last ten years and a high school diploma or equivalent. Essential entry qualifications require the ability to effectively use a phonetic alphabet, speak clearly and concisely, follow oral and written instructions, transfer information accurately, handle a wide range of interpersonal interactions effectively, and learn the use of applicable automated dispatch and law enforcement systems and databases. Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills Graduation from a certified California P.O.S.T. Public Safety Dispatchers' Basic Course. Proof of successful completion of the California P.O.S.T. certified Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course (80 hours minimum) and completion of probation as a public safety dispatcher during previous employment. Current, two-year experience working within a law enforcement agency. Current employment as a dispatcher within a law enforcement communications center. Bilingual skills are desired. |
