This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. Under the direction of the Director of Digital Media (DDM), the Social Media Strategist will improve the university’s brand awareness and build online communities through its centralized social media platforms. The Social Media Strategist serves as the primary manager of central social media efforts and a guide to offices across campus while ensuring that the university’s social presence is aligned with San Diego State University’s strategic priorities and public positioning. The Social Media Strategist will be responsible for developing and administering social media content designed to engage users and create an interactive online relationship between students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends and the university. The position is creative as it is strategic, and the Social Media Strategist must also collect and review social media data to develop more effective short and long-term campaigns, which may intersect with broader communications and/or media relations campaigns. The Social Media Strategist will work closely with the DDM, and be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of San Diego State University’s flagship social media presence, including the social media strategy, strengthening of the social media guidelines and campus-wide coordination. Knowledge of correct artwork dimensions for social media channels, ideal file types and best practices are required, along with solid knowledge of the current media/social media landscape. Extensive knowledge of social media channels and audiences on each is needed to create an effective strategy. Knowledge of copyright and media law is required, to ensure the San Diego State University operates within legal guidelines. Compensation and Benefits
|

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $5,000 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,104 - $7,209 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, and/or some exposure to marketing and marketing research. This background normally is obtained through a college degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field, and up to two years of related professional or technical experience. In addition, strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles are essential to initial entry to this classification.
