About the Position
|

The Chief of Staff serves as a key member of the President's Cabinet and the bridge for communication between the President and the Cabinet. This position performs a wide range of executive and high level organizational and administrative duties requiring a broad and seasoned professional skill set, originality, mature judgment and a thorough knowledge of the administrative and academic programs and organizational structure of the university. The incumbent performs high-level work associated with the goals and vision of the President, developing strategic recommendations and serving as a key advisor on strategy, initiatives and projects within the university and with external partners. The incumbent serves as the President's primary liaison with faculty, staff, committees, and other organizations and individuals as designated by the President. The incumbent oversees all daily operations of the Office of the President, appropriately fielding and directing inquiries, requests and other organizational duties associated with the President.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: -Provides oversight for all functions of the Office of the President, including supervision of staff, fielding inquiries, and prioritizing the President's schedule. -Consults with executive management in the review and administration of campus policies and goals. -Acts independently with broad policy and organizational oversight. -Reviews and provides input and advice on contracts and agreements on behalf of the President. -Identifies, researches and advises the President on campus and CSU issues and is expected to develop recommendations that take into account divergent and contradictory demands and reactions to ensure that projects and policies are completed in a timely manner. -Coordinates and conducts research, evaluation and provides information and recommendations to the President regarding CSU issues/policies/initiatives. -Organizes and prioritizes the major initiatives of the President's direct reports. -Acts as President's primary liaison with campus groups and committees to advance key projects and initiatives. -Guides all communication strategies on behalf of the President, providing guidance for public appearances, presentations and communications from the President. -Edits communications and reports, prepares material for speeches and presentations, develops position papers for the President as required. -Reviews and edits correspondence and documents prepared by Cabinet members and other administrators as necessary. -Demonstrates leadership to maintain credibility, trust and support with senior management. -Serves as President's key liaison with the Office of General Counsel regarding university legal matters and provides input and recommendations in consultation with the appropriate Vice President to the President. -Oversees and maintains all pending and ongoing litigation documentation. -Provides oversight for budget for President's accounts. -Develops and reviews proposals, prepares analyses and drafts responses. -Participates in President's Cabinet, providing perspective and recommendations as needed. -Manages all searches for direct reports to President. -Serves as President's primary liaison for all commencement exercises. |

Minimum Qualifications
|

-Ph.D. or terminal degree
-Three to five years of relevant work experience in higher education |
