About the Position
|

The Diversity and Inclusion Trainer/Educator provides capacity to develop and deliver a portfolio of diversity and inclusion professional development initiatives for faculty, staff, and students on our campus. The position also provides the continual training needed to maintain a campus team of intergroup dialogue facilitators to grow and sustain an intergroup dialogue program for students, staff, and faculty.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: -Develop and implement professional development training initiatives on diversity, inclusion, and intergroup facilitation to build organizational capacity for inclusive excellence and a climate for diversity. -Assess training and development needs on inclusion and diversity through consultation with employee groups and managers in various campus units and divisions. -Write and implement tailored professional development curriculum responsive to needs assessment. -Develop and implement diversity and inclusion train-the-trainers initiatives for staff, faculty, and administrators. -Develop and implement diversity, inclusion, and intergroup understanding programming for students. -Responsible for outreach to engage and develop campus and local partnerships to sustain and support the above initiatives. -Develop, and sustain an intergroup dialogue program using research-based curriculum from University of Michigan¿s Intergroup Dialogue (IGD). -Build capacity to sustain and grow a cohort of trained IGD facilitators who are SJSU staff, faculty, and students. -Work with academic units and student affairs units to build pipelines for student registration and participation in intergroup dialogue program -Work with various staff employee groups and academic units to build separate regular employee IGD dialogue groups. |

Minimum Qualifications
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
-Master's in social psychology, sociology, communication studies, higher education leadership, human resources or other related field.
-Must have 2 years of experience in diversity and inclusion professional development and training on pedagogy for faculty in higher education. At least some experience with diversity and inclusion professional development and training that is specific to STEM faculty. -Must have 2 years of experience in diversity and inclusion professional development and training for staff in higher education. -Must have 2 years of experience in developing and sustaining a robust intergroup dialogue program at a Higher Ed institution. -Must have command of knowledge, literacy, and articulateness about diversity and inclusion issues that are found at a large diverse public university like San Jose State University. -Must be able to discuss the theoretical frameworks that underpin diversity and inclusion training and professional development and be able to write curriculum tailored to these frameworks. -Must be able to demonstrate understanding of the breadth and depth of diversity including and beyond race/ethnicity. |

-Demonstrated experience in working with faculty on diversity and inclusion professional development and training that supports their research, scholarship and creative activities. -Demonstrated experience working with and understanding of diversity and dynamics of exclusion specific to different employee groups at a large institution. |

-Working knowledge of intergroup dialogue theoretical and applied frameworks for implementing and innovating curriculum for intergroup dialogue programming and other dialogue contexts.
-Knowledge, skills, and abilities to launch and mature a campus-based intergroup dialogue program for students, faculty, staff, and local community based on the research and curriculum out of the University of Michigan IGD model (Intergroup Dialogue). -Ability to apply consultative skills to determine professional development needs on diversity, inclusion, and equity for different employee groups and student organizations and campus communities at large. -Ability to write training and professional development curriculum that is current and reflective of current and relevant research and practices in the area of anti-bias training, inclusive classroom pedagogy, inclusive leadership, and systemic equity. -Ability to implement, facilitate, oversee a comprehensive diversity, inclusion, and equity based professional development portfolio that reflects SJSUs goals of inclusive excellence in support of closing the achievement gap of Underrepresented Minority (URM) Student Success and improving faculty and staff diversity and equity. -Ability to apply consultative skills and develop curriculum as stated above in the context of intervention initiatives at the request of organizational leaders (heads of academic departments, deans, Vice Presidents, etc.) -Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a wide range of campus community stakeholders from administrators to staff, faculty, and students across disciplines and responsibilities. -Ability to work in coordination with other staff within the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and University Personnel to plan logistics, recruitment, and materials at a high volume given the size of the campus and limited human, budgetary resources, policy constraints, collective bargaining agreements, and external issues. -Ability to grow a comprehensive portfolio of professional development modules on diversity, inclusion, and equity that is sustainable through train-the-trainers initiatives and partnerships across campus. -Ability to work under pressure and situations of conflict involving diversity, discrimination, and equity at a large public institution that is very diverse in terms of race/ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation, sexual expression, religion, age, immigrant status, veteran and military status, disability and mental health status. |
