About the Position
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Working independently under the limited supervision of the Director of International Student and Scholar Services, the International Programs Manager (IPM) develops, implements and oversees the overall comprehensive co-curricular programming for the growing international student and scholar population at SJSU with the end goal of promoting international student success. This programming will include and is not limited to developing a peer mentorship program, developing international student orientation(s), programming for the J-1 scholar population and building curriculum to enhance the intercultural competencies of students, staff and faculty.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: -Design, implement and manage peer mentorship program. -Design, coordinate, and manage a comprehensive international student orientation/welcome for undergraduate (frosh and transfer), graduate and exchange students. -Develop curriculum for regular workshops to address cross-cultural and academic topics. -Collaborate with ISSS Director, to develop and strengthen international alumni outreach. -Develop a curriculum for the ICC training for staff and faculty and help facilitate the trainings. -Develop curriculum for an ICC focused course for students and help facilitate this course. |

Education and Experience
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related and three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Preferred Qualifications

-Minimum of two years' experience developing programs for international students and scholars
-Minimum of two years' experience developing major and comprehensive programming with assessment tools and learning objectives in place -Experience developing curriculum (e.g. ICC training, special programs, etc.) -Experience with developing and maintaining budgets for programs -International living experience or foreign language proficiency preferred. |

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

-Advanced knowledge and experience with program development and curriculum design.
-Advanced skills in intercultural communication and project management. -In-depth knowledge in the field of international education. -Knowledge using tools (e.g., MS Excel) required for developing budgets and financial models. -Ability to perform financial planning for existing and new programs, estimate and analyze costs and revenues, develop cost effective budgets, and evaluate the financial feasibility of program activities. -Excellent organizational, planning and multi-tasking skills with great attention to details. -Ability to work well with individuals from a variety of cultural, ethnic, religious, and linguistic backgrounds. -Must possess excellent customer service and public relations skills. -Excellent oral and written communication skills. -Leadership and mentoring skills. -Ability to work collaboratively, professionally and effectively with colleagues, members of the university community and the public -Ability to work well under pressure and to multi-task. -Knowledge of a variety of communication mediums (e.g., websites and social media) to promote International Education and Student Services, curriculum, and programs -Ability to quickly learn how to use the PeopleSoft database to access student and program information. |
