About the Position
|

Under the direction of the Director of Global Education and Initiatives (GEI), the Program Specialist will develop, implement, and evaluate globally focused programs in both credit and noncredit offerings. The incumbent will collaborate with faculty, departments, colleges, and international partners/organizations to develop and sustain an array of high quality, high-impact study abroad and study away learning opportunities that meet the educational needs and goals of the SJSU's diverse student population. The Program Specialist will contribute to strategic planning, implementation and improvement of processes, student support and services, evaluation of programmatic goals, and development of recommendations for new programs and sustaining/growing existing ones.
The incumbent implements and monitors globally focused programs that take place locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. The Program Specialist has a role in supporting instructors to achieve program goals as well as supporting students' success in Study Away/Abroad courses and programs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: -Administer and coordinate the development of GEI programs such as Faculty Led Programs, Summer School Abroad Programs, U.S. Culture Programs, etc. -Monitor and communicate development processes to stakeholders in the academic units as well as the broader SJSU divisions and units (e.g. Student Services, Undergraduate and Graduate Offices, Administration and Finance, etc.) and provide necessary support to stakeholders. -Market and promote SJSU programs through information sessions, classroom visits, study abroad fairs, and promotional activities. -Advise students about study abroad/study away opportunities to maximize their personal, academic, and professional goals. Serve as a resource for students and their families regarding study abroad programs and policies. -Coordinate the workflow related to courses/programs and the various owners/responsible units (within CIES and the broader SJSU) for the work to ensure timely deployment of course/program offerings. -Develop standard program contracts with external partners and vendors. Liaises with on-campus offices that process contracts. -Collaborate with director and other CIES departments in carrying out relevant strategic plans. This may include developing strategies to effectively execute goals, reviewing and revising goals to align with university initiatives, and producing reports updating the progress of goal completion. -Provide student assistant supervision as needed. -Coordinate the student Global Ambassador program. |

Education and Experience
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university, preferably with courses in adult education and curriculum planning and equivalent to two years of experience in planning classes or programs in a specialized field or area, preferably in higher, extended, or adult education. Experience developing resources, budgets, and marketing plans for educational programs and in acting as a liaison with the community is desirable. Teaching experience in higher or extended education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
|

- Graduate degree in International Education or related area.
- A minimum of 2.5 years of experience in international education organizing, scheduling, managing budgets and planning tasks for program delivery and assessment. - Experience studying or working abroad. - 2 years of direct experience working in a study abroad office with faculty-led programming. - Experience advising college students, preferably about study abroad. |

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
|

-Extensive knowledge in International Education with a familiarity and experience working on a variety of study abroad program models.
-Knowledge of the procedures and practices in program planning and development in international education. -Knowledge of Study Away/Abroad mobility programs and development processes in order to appropriately advise and direct academic departments/colleges and appropriate stakeholders. -Knowledge of U.S. and international higher education systems, policies, and laws relating to international educational programming and partnerships, including federal and state laws, University rules regulations concerning study abroad programs including but not limited to FERPA, Title IX, Clery Act, etc. -Knowledge of international academic credit and course evaluation. -Working knowledge of a variety of communication mediums (e.g., websites and social media) to promote GEI programs. -Knowledge of conducting or overseeing market research related to study away/abroad opportunities for developing or growing program offerings. -Strong project management skills: must have the knowledge and skill-set related to identifying and documenting project tasks, requirements, deliverables, and timelines. -Must be solutions oriented with excellent problem-solving skills and be able to think quickly and adeptly about how to address problems and adjust plans to meet changing factors. -Knowledge of standard contract processes and ability to work within a contract template. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills. -Knowledge of best practices in risk management in international education programs. -Ability to participate in risk management of GEI programs. -Knowledge of PeopleSoft database used to schedule, access course information, and run and develop reports pertaining to course data. -Working knowledge with and ability to work effectively with software specific to study abroad/away (e.g., Terra Dotta Software). -Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed by CIES. |
