About the Position

Reporting to the Deputy Athletics Director, the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Major Gifts is responsible for supervising two major gifts officers and the development and execution of fundraising activities necessary to successfully secure gifts of $100,000 and above for Football Athletics. The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Major Gifts is part of a comprehensive team, which raises funds for buildings, endowments with a focus on the Football Athletics programs, facilities and students. This position is responsible for actively managing a prospect / donor portfolio with annual goals for personal visits and fundraising outcomes based on metrics established by the Deputy Athletics Director; develop and execute sound strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects / donors ¿ initiate contact, develop appropriate timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; work collaboratively with the leadership of colleges, key university donor-centric cultivation and solicitation strategy; work collaboratively with peers in Major Gifts as well as colleagues in Annual Giving, Planned Giving, and Corporate and Foundation Relations.
The incumbent works with volunteer leadership providing them direction and support in maximizing Intercollegiate Athletics major gift fundraising potential; focus on securing funding for designated priorities including academic programs, scholarships, unrestricted support, facility renovations, new facilities and other specified priorities; collaborate with stewardship colleagues with donor stewardship efforts particularly pertaining to Athletics and help promote a culture of gratitude among internal and external constituents. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: - Develop and manage the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of individual major gift prospects and alumni for Athletics, with a focus on the Football program and facilities. Develop and implement strategic steps to build relationships that will result in gifts in support of students, faculty, programs and capital projects. Solicit prospective donors for gifts. - Raise funds for capital campaigns for Football Operations Building and CEFCU Stadium renovation, new on-campus baseball stadium, and new track and field, as well as establishing a sophisticated major gifts program, including both operating funds and endowment growth. - Partner with the Deputy Athletics Director on an analysis of the feasibility of a major gifts program with the goal of developing a non-traditional portfolio to cultivate, solicit and steward for Athletics. Serve as the primary fundraising partner for Spartan Football leadership and manage a portfolio of major gift prospective donors and solicit donors for gifts. - Actively engage and establish trust with the alumni and Athletics community at SJSU. - Present and regularly review top prospect strategies with Deputy Athletics Director and other key team members as appropriate. - Work collaboratively with peers in Major Gifts as well as colleagues in Annual Giving, Planned Giving and Corporate and Foundation Relations. - Work with volunteer leadership providing them direction and support in maximizing major gift fundraising potential. - Focus on securing funding for designated priorities for Spartan Football. - Effectively utilize campus data management system and enter prospect/donor contact reports and relevant data in a timely fashion. - Prepare written donor cultivation and solicitation plans and proposals - Participate in staff, functional and strategy meetings including prospect review sessions, and attend conferences, seminars, and other development training as feasible and appropriate. This is a position in the CSU - Management Personnel Plan (MPP), and serves at the pleasure of the President. This position will require adherence to University compliance training such as: Conflict of Interest and Ethics, AB 1825 Sexual Harassment Prevention, Information Security, and Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Minimum Qualifications
|

- Bachelor's degree from accredited institution
- Four years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, sales or similar professional work. |

- Advanced Degree
- Experience in fundraising at a Division 1 athletics program. - Fundraising experience for Athletics football programs. - Experience developing donor (or client) - centric solicitation strategies leading to closing major gifts (or accounts) - Experience engaging and supporting volunteer leadership in their fundraising efforts - Fundraising experience in a capital or comprehensive campaign setting, preferable at an institution of higher education - Excellent written communication skills |

- Strong knowledge of both men's and women's sports, with significant acumen in football program and facilities needs
- Knowledge of the dynamics that athletes and coaches must navigate within higher education - Sensitivity and understanding of Title IX issues, and an innate ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds - Knowledge of NCAA Division 1 intercollegiate athletics - Knowledge of NCAA and conference guidelines, policies, rules and regulations - Ability to identify donors and cultivate, solicit, and close gifts of six and seven figures - Skill in networking and opening doors as well as developing donor-centric cultivation and solicitation strategies - Ability to navigate the institution / assigned unit and make the appropriate match for donor interests. - Demonstrated ability to engage and support volunteer leadership with their efforts in fundraising, consultation, and advocacy - Strong oral and written communication skills - High level of initiative, attention to detail and organization skills - Skillful in successfully managing multiple projects on tight deadlines and under pressure in a dynamic and open environment - Ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions - Proficient in Google docs and ability to learn tech platforms as needed |
