About the Position
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Reporting to the Director of the of the College of Education Student Success Center, the incumbent will work independently under the general supervision to provide academic advising and related student academic support services for students in the College of Education. Position responsibilities may include providing accurate, timely, and consistent advising to students on academic requirements and procedures; connecting students to appropriate resources on campus; and providing support and assistance to students facing a variety of personal as well as institutional problems, questions and challenges. Working with the Student Success Center team, the incumbent provides professional advising support for recruiting and orienting new students, and supports University initiatives on retention and success through graduation.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: - Provide advising for undergraduate, post-bachelorette, and graduate programs consistent with CSU, SJSU, Academic Advising and Retention Services (AARS) and Lurie College of Education (LCOE) policies and procedures. - Advising services include, but are not limited to, advising for general education; academic and educational planning; preparation and support in the major; remedial and probation/disqualification advising; and communication with faculty, staff, and students about these issues. - Maintain appropriate confidential records of student contact for accountability and assessment purposes. - Use online tools to monitor student progress and collect and analyze data related to student success. - Work with the Center advising team to evaluate effectiveness of programs based on assessment data; recommend changes in program procedures to improve student success. - Develop and deliver workshops on topics such as effective study skills; time management; achievement motivation; academic standing in the major, including academic probation and disqualification; career preparation; and other topics related to student success. - Represent LCOE at campus meetings and events assigned in collaboration with the director. |

Education and Experience
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master's Degree in an academic-related field
- Two years of experience in progressively responsible professional student services work. - One year in the program area preferred. |

Through knowledge of English grammar, business writing, punctuation and spelling. - Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality requirements and other ethical standards. - Ability to plan and conduct small-scale workshops and make effective presentations to groups. - Ability to collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make recommendation based on these data. |
