Diversity Profile

Commitment to Equal Opportunity:

St. Edward's University takes pride in the diversity of our academic community. We welcome people from all backgrounds — racial, ethnic, religious, political, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical ability and socioeconomic. We value the individuality and uniqueness of those around us. And we learn from one another in an atmosphere of positive encouragement and mutual respect.

Our commitment to diversity, inclusion and equality was instilled by our founders, the Congregation of Holy Cross. Inspired by their tradition of service and social justice, our mission encourages a dedication to providing educational and employment opportunities to people from every walk of life.

Thriving in a Multicultural Environment
From our the increasing diversity of our faculty, staff and student body to academic programs that foster a bigger worldview to multicultural events and organizations, we’re committed to an experience informed by a multiplicity of ideas and perspectives.

An example of our inclusiveness is seen across our undergraduate student body, which represents 45 U.S. states, 54 countries and 30 languages. Nearly 50% are students from underrepresented groups, and more than 10% hail from other countries.

Creating Opportunities for Dialogue and Change

Our Office of Student Life sponsors 125+clubs and organizations, many focused on multicultural awareness. Students create and participate in identity-based groups like Black Student Association, PRIDE, Women Empowerment and Hillel Toppers; organizations dedicated to causes such as Habitat for Humanity, Pangea Educational Development and Amnesty International; and several foreign language clubs.

Student Life’s Multicultural Leadership Board promotes dozens of programs that educate the campus community and facilitate positive dialogue and change. Events include the Multicultural Fair, Cesar Chavez Week, Lunar New Year, Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Dawali, Eid Al-Fitr and Yom Kippur.

With 40+ faith traditions represented on campus, Campus Ministry engages our community to embrace differences. They foster an inclusive, safe and inviting environment where students, faculty and staff can share their own religious or nonreligious beliefs in fellowship with others, and find common ground through unity.

Living, Learning and Serving Together

Our emphasis on service and improving the world means our Social Justice Living Learning Community (LLC) is one of the largest on campus. In this active LLC, highly motivated students and faculty from various academic fields share their passion for creating a more fair and ethical society.

And every St. Edward’s student is encouraged to study abroad. Our expanding network of 21 international partner universities in 16 countries gives students countless chances to experience other cultures and fully engage in a world rich in opportunity and complexity.
