Job Description:
SUNY Empire State College's School for Graduate Studies seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Finance. The successful candidate will provide high-quality educational services to students developing and teaching courses in the areas of finance such as financial management, financial economics, quantitative methods in finance, international finance, financial risk management, financial analysis and control, and financial instruments and derivatives. The successful candidate will engage in collaborative research, participate in programmatic student retreats, advise students, and advance the college's goals. We are particularly interested in candidates with skills in the design of online courses and assessments and the ability to teach courses in accounting. Maintaining an active research agenda and service to the college are also expected.
Faculty members work with students in one-on-one, seminar, retreat-based, blended and online learning modes at the graduate and undergraduate levels; the mix varies by setting. The college is a pioneer in serving adult learners, prior learning assessment and online learning. A highly distributed organization, Empire State College makes extensive use of technologies for communication, teaching and learning, and administrative purposes.
The School for Graduate Studies serves over 1,000 students per year in several degree and certificate programs offered in online and blended formats. The MS in Finance is a core degree program in an expanding finance curriculum. The Assistant Professor will support the growth of this curriculum, with principal emphasis on the MS in Finance.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- An earned doctorate in finance or a related field from a regionally accredited U.S. university or comparable non-U.S. university (ABD considered)
- College-level teaching experience
- Ability to develop and teach courses in several areas of study such as financial management, financial economics, quantitative methods in finance, and financial instruments and derivatives
- A research agenda in finance and/or other relevant areas in the field
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- The ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment
- The desire and skills to engage with a diverse student body
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning and experience in online and blended teaching formats
- Professional, consulting, or related experience in finance
- A record of scholarship in finance and related areas
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity issues in higher education
- Skills in the design of online assessments
- Ability to teach classes in accounting, including international accounting
Special Information:
- The location is open to any of Empire State College's major locations across New York State (Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Capital Region, Hudson Valley, New York City, or Long Island)
- Teaching in evening and weekend residencies and retreats per program needs will be required
- Office hours (primarily online) will vary to accommodate student needs
- Some travel and overnights required
