The Assistant Director for Residential Living and Learning and Creative Services is a professional staff member who directly oversees a team of Community Directors (Masters Level), Assistant Community Directors (Graduate students), and a Marketing Graduate Assistant (Graduate student) to ensure the success of fully functioning communities and the departmental marketing initiatives. The Assistant Director will share responsibilities for committees and departmental initiatives, determined year to year based on experience and desire to take on new endeavors.
Supervision & Development of Community Directors, Assistant Community Directors, Resident Assistants, and Desk staff
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of administrative tasks delegated to area staff
- Articulate and supervise implementation of hall and university policies and procedures
- Monitor and evaluate area staff performance; address performance issues as required
- Ensure provision of duty coverage in assigned halls
Assist with Judicial Affairs, Crisis Response, Counseling and On-Call Rotation
- Establish clear guidelines and expectations for policy enforcement and associated documentation with area staff
- Follow-up on disciplinary matters and with students experiencing issues; make counseling referrals where necessary
- Provides backup coverage for para-and professional staff members in assigned area
Marketing
- Works in conjunction with the Residential Living and Learning Leadership Team to develop a marketing plan to retain and recruit undergraduate students to on- campus housing and summer conference attendees.
- Coordinates all aspects of housing tours and recruitment marketing.
Design
- Develops creative identities and advertising materials for educational initiatives.
- Creates and maintains a department brand and look to all materials and a visual presence by the use of photos, videos, and printed materials.
- Assists in the creation of recruitment tools for student and professional staff recruitment.
Development and maintenance of a clean, safe and functional living environment for residents
- Coordinate on-site supervision for area fire drills; coordinate health and safety inspections of individual rooms when needed;
- Supervise and manage area damage billing; adjudicate damage appeals when needed
Departmental, Division and Professional Commitments
- The position presents many opportunities to become involved on campus and pursue professional development and interests through committees and campus partnerships. Involvement in student affairs professional regional and/or national associations is also supported and encouraged.
SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL:
Supervises variety of student, paraprofessional, graduate students, marketing staff, and full time professional staff.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education, counseling or a related area is required.
- Three to five years of extensive and diverse experience in the following areas is required: staff development and supervision, administration of residence hall operations, and facilitating and supervising student development programming activities. Understanding of the purpose of living learning communities is a must and having experience developing LLCs is preferred.
- Up to 2 years of experience working in designing publications, managing marketing campaigns, and/or experience managing social media
- Experience in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar products
- Experience in student housing or residence life
- Experience with photography and video.
Licenses, Certifications and Registrations
- Valid driver license. Certified or ability to become certified to drive motor pool vehicles within 60 days of start date. PREFERRED:
