SUMMARY:
The Senior Associate Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of residence halls, student conduct, and programmatic elements of the department. Provides residence education leadership and training to departmental personnel to ensure adherence to policies and procedures and meet customer service needs. Develops and facilitates the Residential Curriculum goals and objectives for the department. Also manages the after-hours crisis response protocol for Residential Living and Learning staff. Provides departmental oversight in the absence of the Director.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees residential customer services and programmatic initiatives.
- Coordinates and supervises the hiring, training, development of Residence Education staff.
- Works closely with the Associate Director of Business Operations approving budget requests, Residence Education professionals and student staff training budgets, hall programming budgets, and recruitment/professional development/travel.
- Works closely with the Associate Director of Business Operations in development, implementation, and execution of Living and Learning Communities.
- Works closely with the Associate Director of Hall Operations in development of policies and procedures for staff and students to keep areas safe and functioning properly.
- Maintains Residence Education and Resident Assistant calendars each semester in an effort to coordinate the residence halls and central office operations in line with the official university calendar.
- Serves as liaison with University Police Department and Judicial Affairs office.
- Supervise and manages judicial processes and files, including Clery Act Reporting.
- Encourages and coordinates outreach efforts with other departments on campus in order to promote residence life while keeping the housing area abreast of on-campus activities.
- Provides general oversight and assistance with departmental marketing and recruitment efforts.
- Responsible for administering the summer housing and summer camp components.
- Works closely with department leadership in the coordination of assessment measures.
- Assists in developing, updating and interpreting department policies and procedures.
- Serves as a representative of the Department of Residential Living and Learning on various University committees.
- Ensures Residence Education staff are present and assisting with new student recruitment and orientation events.
- Works closely with Enrollment Management to create strategies for recruitment and retention of residents.
- Coordinates and responds to crises in housing facilities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education, counseling or a related area.
- Experience: Six (6) years of extensive and diverse experience in the following areas: staff development and supervision, administration of residence hall operations, and facilitating and supervising student development programming activities. Demonstrated experience in supervision of full-time staff.
- Knowledge / Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication. Excellent presentation skills.
- Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to travel. Ability to work beyond normal office hours and/or on weekends.
- Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid driver’s license. Ability to be certified to drive motor pool vehicles within 60 days of start date.
