SUMMARY:
The Web Applications Developer I is responsible for creating, designing and managing multiple complex web sites and supporting digital marketing strategies designed to meet the institutional goals. Incumbent plans and develops new and current web functionality and applications, and incorporates responsive web design and technology into all site development.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as an assistant project manager for university web development initiatives.
- Creates, designs and manages multiple complex web sites supporting the university. Responsible for content and technical development, implementation and maintenance of sites, including HTML coding, JavaScript implementation, dynamic web applications (ASP and PHP), database interactivity, coordinating site links, and uploading material to servers.
- Assists in the development of web strategies that are consistent with the overall integrated marketing strategy for the university.
- Collaborates with designers and writers to create strategic web content.
- Creates and manipulates interactive presentations, video and graphics for web applications.
- Helps develop web standards and guidelines for style, content, and code through research of current trends, usability testing of clients, surveys of clients and content administrators, university computer use policies, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Consults with departments and end users on their web goals and development, ensuring that overall standards for appearance and usability are maintained for all websites.
- Works closely with information technology department staff, campus partners, and contracted vendors.
- Tracks and reports user activity using web analytics and gives recommendation on marketing strategy based on the data collected.
- Assists in the management of the university content development collaborative.
- Assists in training and development of web administrators and content developers.
- Assists in developing documentation and online training for web developers.
- Debugs and troubleshoots published sites.
- Documents, tracks and manages projects using departmental project management system.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer programming, digital media, visual communication, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Two years of experience in web development/programming with relational databases to produce dynamic web-based applications. Requires a combination of technical IT knowledge and skill in written and visual communication. Experience in consulting and/or strategy of web development/programming and in responsive web development. Experience with WordPress, PHP, ASP/ASP.NET (or similar language), SQL Server (or similar), MS Server 2008/ISS 7, JavaScript, AJAX, JQuery, JSON, XML, HTML, CSS, SCSS. Experience with debugging web including Chrome/Android and mobile Safari. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications as they pertain to web development.

Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Apply knowledge of web applications to create both static and dynamic responsive web pages, resolving performance issues such as speed of access and ease of use.
Research and apply new technologies and techniques.
Demonstrate oral and written communication skills.
