Texas A&M University-San Antonio

Texas A&M University-San Antonio, located in the heart of San Antonio's South Side, was established as a stand-alone institution in 2009 after operating as a system center under Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Bringing access to higher education to a historically underserved community was the dream of the late Senator Frank Madla, who worked tirelessly to bring an A&M System campus to the South Side of San Antonio. Today, Texas A&M-San Antonio offers a variety of upper-division undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including a graduate alternative teacher's certification program.

Texas A&M University-San Antonio celebrated two milestones recently which reflects why it is one of the fastest growing universities in the area.

 

First, A&M-SA welcomes its President Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, coming from California State University Fresno where she served as Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer. Her diverse responsibilities included everything from finance to technology to athletics. Her appointment began on January 12.

Second, A&M-SA was granted independent accreditation in December 2014. The accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges separates the University from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and is retroactive to January 1, 2014. Now that the University is separately accredited, it will seek SACSCOC approval, as needed, to add to and diversify its degree programs and course offerings, including "downward expansion," which will develop A&M-SA to a full four-year university, and the addition of doctoral degrees.

Currently, A&M-San Antonio offers 22 undergraduate degrees and 10 graduate degrees in a variety of in-demand fields. As the only urban campus in the distinguished Texas A&M University System, our faculty and staff prepare and empower students to be innovative and contributing members of a global society.

Located in the historically underserved region of South San Antonio, Texas A&M-San Antonio offers an affordable and accessible education with the lowest tuition rates among San Antonio universities. Financial aid and numerous scholarships are available along with a flourishing student life environment including clubs, tutoring and recreational space on a beautiful expanding campus.

In the College of Education & Human Development, a revolutionary teacher preparation program is partnering with local school districts and the five Alamo Colleges, producing highly sought after teachers and administrators who are "Ready from Day One" to meet the challenges of the modern classroom. The College of Business, currently located at the Brooks City-Base multi-purpose research center, features the marketable M.B.A. and M.P.A. degrees alongside challenging and engaging undergraduate programs in international business, cyber security and information technology. The College of Arts & Sciences offers exceptional programs that give students real-life research opportunities to gain practical and cultural experience in fields such as political science, criminology and sociology. Graduates have been placed in local government, law enforcement, and human service agencies throughout the city and region.

The Main Campus at A&M-SA offers three unique buildings: the Senator Frank L. Madla Building, the first installation on the permanent campus; The Central Academic Building, along with its adjacent art auditorium; and, the Patriots' Casa, which is designed to service the student military community and their families. This is in addition to the Brooks City-Base Campus which houses classes for the College of Business.

A&M-SA students have established nearly 40 student groups, ranging from academic interests such as communications and bilingual education to recreational and student veterans support, and enjoy amenities such as ample student parking, recreational and study spaces, and a soon-to-be-opened fitness center.

With unprecedented enrollment growth, small classes, flexible schedules, and in-demand degrees, Texas A&M-San Antonio is making the dream of higher education a reality for students in the San Antonio community and region.
