Thomas Edison State University was established by the state of New Jersey and chartered by the New Jersey Board of Higher Education in 1972. The University was founded for the purpose of providing diverse and alternative methods of achieving a collegiate education of the highest quality for mature adults. The University continues to provide flexible, high-quality, collegiate learning opportunities for self-directed adults. Thomas Edison State University, one of 11 senior public colleges and universities in New Jersey, enrolls approximately 21,000 adult students from around the world. The University provides flexible, high-quality, collegiate learning opportunities for self-directed adults and currently offers more than 50 associate, baccalaureate, and graduate degree programs and certificates in more than 100 areas of study. Thomas Edison State University is a national leader in the assessment of adult learning and a pioneer in the use of educational technologies. The University is home to The John S. The University campus is located in the state capital city of Trenton, N.J., adjacent to New Jersey's State House complex and the State House historic district.
