ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: [1] STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS. Oversee and coordinate the MBI’s strategic communications needs. Develop and implement cost-effective, research-based, measureable communications strategies that raise awareness of the MBI’s activities and missions, and the faculty’s clinical, research, and educational advances, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the college’s reputation among a variety of audiences and publicizing the institute director’s vision for the MBI. Leverage compelling and unique communications tools to develop effective and impactful materials, serving as project manager and editor for a wide variety of print and electronic materials and outreach projects, including fact sheets, brochures, annual reports, web content, radio scripts, social media outlets and awareness events. Promote and advances institute activities using news, social media, communications, and public affairs strategies (as appropriate). Ensure consistency of messaging and branding. Participate in strategic communications planning for UF Health and UF Health Communications. Manage development and implementation of communications procedures and tools for the institute, and affiliated programs and services. Prepare communications reports. Ensure a coordinated approach to communications, working closely with faculty members, staff members, UF Health Communications managers and staff members, and main campus communicators to gather detailed information and statistics for materials, avoid duplication of effort, and ensure effectiveness and adherence to UF and UF Health communications standards, guidelines, and policies. Work closely with UF Health creative services staff members to coordinate photography, videography, graphic design, and outsourcing to freelancers to complete projects. Coordinate production in a cost-effective manner. Comply with UF and UF Health editing, review, news distribution, and identity/branding policies. Escort media members when they visit the MBI and/or Academic Health Center (AHC) campus. [2] NEWS & PUBLIC RELATIONS. Develop and implement a cost-effective public relations strategy to promote the research, educational, and clinical missions of the MBI to the public, peer institutions, alumni, donors, and the UF community. Participate in strategic communications planning for the MBI and UF Health, and the AHC. Ensure a coordinated approach to news and public relations, marketing, and advertising efforts, working closely with MBI directors and staff members, UF Health Communications leadership, UF Communications, the College of Medicine (COM), and the UF Foundation (UFF) to ensure effectiveness, avoid duplication of effort, and ensure adherence to uniform standards and policy. Work with MBI leadership, faculty members, and staff members, with strategic direction shaped by the Director of the MBI and UF Health Communications leadership, to develop, implement, and evaluate news and public affairs initiatives. Help ensure consistent messages through coordination with development communications staff members. Coordinate awareness activities and events for internal and external audiences. Helps coordinate tours of MBI facilities. Track, communicate, and evaluate progress of projects and metrics throughout process. Provides regular reports. [3] ONLINE COMMUNICATIONS. Manage the online web presence for the institute, acting as liaison between the institute and information technology (including working closely with Information Technology (IT)/UF Health Communications Web Services) to ensure a comprehensive, strategic approach to website communications. Develop content for, improve, and maintain the website (mbi.ufl.edu). Independently maintain and update website regularly. Work with IT to lead the construction of new websites and redesign of existing websites. Maintain the campus-wide neuroscience calendar in conjunction with other key communicators in colleges who have faculty involvement. Work with others to develop the social media presence of the MBI and its constituents. [4] OTHER. Meet regularly with the Directors of the MBI and UF Health Communications leadership, and attend strategic planning meetings with the MBI Executive Committee. Attend weekly News and Publications meetings. Coordinate needs of the MBI with the UF Health Communications office. Serve on the media response team for UF Health. Perform other duties (as required). |
Advertised Salary: | $68,000 to $75,000; commensurate with experience and education. |
Minimum Requirements: |
Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience or a bachelor's degree in appropriate areas of specialization and four years of relevant experience. |
