Job no: 494665
Position Type: Faculty Full Time
Campus: UMass Boston
Department: Psychology
Date opened: Eastern Daylight Time
Applications close: Eastern Daylight Time
The Department of Psychology at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning Fall 2019. We are seeking applicants whose research focuses on racial or ethnic cultural issues and minority populations with connections to mental health or clinical applications.
Examples of potential areas of focus include: experiences/effects of racism and discrimination; coping with and resisting racism; acculturation/enculturation; processes of racialization, including racial and ethnic identities; health and mental health experiences and/or disparities related to race and culture; problem prevention, health promotion, and/or evidence based clinical practice with racial and ethnic minority populations; or pressing social issues with clear policy and/or practice implications for racial and ethnic minorities. Although specific research interests within this area are open in terms of a focus on any racial/ethnic/cultural issues or populations, priority will be given to candidates who conduct research of relevance to our UMB and surrounding communities (e.g., immigrant, lower income communities). Ideally, the successful candidate would add a new area of specialization (e.g., Latinx, Native American, MENA) and catalyze synergy and collaboration in research and training activities of current faculty.
Requirements for consideration include a Ph.D. in psychology, clear evidence of excellence in (or potential for excellence in) both research and teaching, and a research and teaching focus with connections to clinical psychology. Responsibilities include teaching and mentoring students within the undergraduate psychology major and within the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program. Preference will be given to licensed or license-eligible applicants in Clinical Psychology or related licensable fields (e.g., Counseling, School, Neuropsychology), but applicants with applied research interests in other areas of psychology (e.g., Community Psychology) will also be considered.
